It felt like I was “working 9-5” carving these pumpkins tonight for my kids. 🤣 Youngest daughter wanted @DollyParton and the oldest daughter wanted @SpiderMan.
Homecoming isn’t about wins & losses. It’s about seeing friends & family. Loved seeing all the alumni back today. Best moment was as I was leaving & saw a huge group of @AverettFootball alums taking a photo together. They saw me walking by & a bunch of them ran over to say hi💙💛

The best way to learn is by hearing from those in the field. Thank you to @AdamJardy for talking to my Intro to Broadcasting & Reporting class this morning about ethics and journalism, and sharing his experiences.

Today, we remember the heroes who ran toward danger. @AverettMLax honored the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice by taking on a stair climb to symbolize the 110 stories of the World Trade Center in their memory. 🇺🇸

Thank you to @AverettFootball’s @CoachQuinn19 for sitting in on a mock press conference for my Intro to Broadcasting & Reporting class this morning. My students had some great questions and got experience being reporters in this setting.
Hearing it firsthand from those in the business is the best way to learn. Thank you to @StillMikeBarber for talking to my Intro to Broadcasting & Reporting class this morning about interviewing and journalism tips.
Took a leap 18 years ago today, shifting from newspapers to athletics communications at Averett. Here we are now, ready for my 19th school yr at AU. Although I moved from athletics into marketing & communications this past Jan., I couldn’t be more excited to begin a new acad yr.
My wife has waited all her life to get to see @hansonmusic in concert, and tonight’s the night. But no T-shirt or merch booth! She wanted a tour shirt so bad!
Thank you to @CollSportsComm for highlighting all of the Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest award recipients from earlier this summer. It was an honor to have an Averett story selected.
Drew Wilson's story on Averett student-athlete Killian O'Reilly, "O'Reilly's positive mindset eases pressure entering 2025 NCAA Men's Golf National Championships," has placed first for Athlete Profile in the College Division.
Additionally, this story placed as runner-up for the National Story of the Year in the College Division. Congratulations Drew on all of your achievements this year!

Surreal to have a story win 1st nationally in its category for 3rd year in a row. It was also national story of the year runner-up (tie), which is 2nd time in 3 years I’ve been fortunate enough for that recognition. Thankful for opportunities to get to tell great stories. 🙌
Congratulations to the 2025-26 Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest College Division National Winners!

Blessed to have 3 stories earn District 3 recognition:
🥇historical feature for third consecutive year
🥇athlete profile
🥈event coverage
I’ve been fortunate to earn one or more Stabley honors in each of the last five years — 16 total district/national during that stretch.
More than 110 articles written by CSC members have been honored as district winners in the 2025-26 Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest!

Growing up a @Braves fan in the 90s, Bobby Cox managing Atlanta was a huge part of my childhood. After he retired, I had the opportunity to meet him and photograph him throwing out the first pitch at a @DanvilleBraves game in 2011. RIP.
