Someone told a rookie Keiji Muto to greet André The Giant with "Fuck you." Poor Muto didn't know what it meant, so he walked up to the ring apron and said it anyway. André slapped him straight off the apron and into the next time zone! That's the world many NJPW young lions grew up in during the 1980s - a dojo culture where senior wrestlers would set up elaborate pranks and watch their juniors suffer the consequences with enormous satisfaction. The shoe polish story is perhaps the finest example. As Inoki's new assistant in April 1985, Masahiro Chono was tasked with polishing shoes for a match against Dick Murdoch. His direct senior kept telling him it needed more polish - three or four rounds of "just a little bit more" - until the shoes had hardened completely solid. The next day, mid-match, both Murdoch and Inoki turned entirely black from the overflow. The looks from the other seconds and the referee needed no translation. The senior responsible had already disappeared from the scene, of course, and was later found absolutely crying with laughter. Shinya Hashimoto got it just as bad. Told that if Abdullah the Butcher went outside the ring he should kick him back in - framed as standard ringside duty - Hashimoto took it completely literally and repeatedly booted Abdullah in the back. A formal complaint came through the referee. Hashimoto was taken off match cards for a while. The incident is believed to be the origin of his dojo nickname: Butcher. The defence these seniors always used? "It's a greeting" or "it's to protect the audience." The juniors had no choice but to say "understood" - and walk straight into the trap. #njpw

“I always had a good relationship with AEW, so now in this second opportunity, Tony [Khan] gave me this opportunity to go back to AEW. And now is the moment to show who I am. How I need to pay Tony, I need to pay with my work in the ring. This is why I want to defend this [AEW National] title. This is why I am here. I want to help the people in the locker room. I want to stay close with the boys. I am here to help the company. They want the best for this company, they want the best for me. I want to represent this company very well. This is how I need to pay Tony for this second chance, second opportunity.” - Andrade El Idolo (Close Up w/ Renee Paquette)

AEW has a strong negative reputation among the Japanese fanbase and has for some time now. I think it's a smart decision not to run from it but reach out, run a show or two in Japan as true AEW shows and possibly integrate some freelance legends on terms beyond the NJPW relationship, we know there are a ton of people in AEW with great respect for Japanese wrestling history. Ariake wouldn't be my choice as a venue but if they have hopes in the country running a true AEW show there is a great choice.

You can't build a market on dream matches alone. The relationships and follow through matter just as much.

Cartoon Network in general from late-2014 to 2021 acted like their older shows didn’t exist at all. Their older shows had almost no attention, no reruns, no mentions, no nothing. Christmas 2021 was the first time CN’s older shows got genuine attention in years since early-2014.
It’s kinda sad how Cartoon Network from 2017-2021 acted like Regular Show didn’t exist. Then the network transitioned around 2022 into being a nostalgia brand for Gen-Z and millennials since kids weren’t watching CN anymore, and Regular Show finally got more attention again.

Even then, they mostly skipped over millennials. We got a few incomplete DVD releases, and Checkered Past with CN City on Adult Swim, but that's really it. It's been 90% Gen Z nostalgia. Anything prior to 2010 never happened, according to CN 🥲

and this is same cartoon network that made Ben 10 alien force which is sequel to Ben 10 You're telling me that CN refused to make sequel for codename kids next door because it would be too dark but fine with greenlighting this?

Unfortunately, the network passed on it because executives concerned about C:KNDsequel series G:KND being too dark and intense for children, alienate the episodic format that CN stand for, and age out of the target audience with more mature storytelling.

if that's the case.. they might as well greenlighted galactic kids next door and then greenlighted billy and mandy destroy us all because those were sequel to nostalgia show.. it's pretty shame but i hoped cartoon network noticed what their fans wanted

Fr, I like the RPM Paleomax Rangers but they weren't made canon. Most of the original PR stuff that I do like are in the comics like black Time Force. SPD Deka Ranger and Turbo Black but again that's the comics where they have more freedom

That time back in 1998 on Raw is War when Vince McMahon tried to orchestrate the ultimate corporate makeover for the WWF Champion by dressing Stone Cold in a suit and tie to soften his image. But Austin wasn't about to change for anybody he played along long enough to pose for photos with Vince and the police officer before tearing off the suit to reveal his classic Rattlesnake gear. Instead of a Stunner Austin caught Vince with a surprise punch straight to the nuts…
