Luxury iron uptake and storage in pennate diatoms from the equatorial Pacific Ocean. Pseudo-nitzschia took up 22-fold more iron in 48h (into what appears to be ferritin) and then used this to support subsequent growth.

Think that dissolved iron controls phytoplankton iron quotas? Our new paper in L&O Letters (aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley…) shows that N-limitation and taxon-specific luxury uptake are also important. #GEOTRACES

Evidence that we need to double down on understanding our changing world, and how to model it, so that we can use those models to plan.
This was a fantastic talk!

I am disappointed with the results of #COP25.
The international community lost an important opportunity to show increased ambition on mitigation, adaptation & finance to tackle the climate crisis.
But we must not give up, and I will not give up.

Let me break this down a bit further. The suggestion that scientists necessarily refrain from public discussions of the policy implications of the science is not only wrong, it's potentially deadly.
Replying to @MichaelEMann
"If scientists choose not to engage in the public debate, we leave a vacuum that will be filled by those whose agenda is one of short-term self-interest..."
It’s inspiring to work @BigelowLab where this sight greets me on the way to my car. (But couldn’t I get a little more daylight, Maine?)

Enjoyed my visit to @ColbyCollege immensely. So impressed by the students & faculty & the example they're setting as 1st institution in NESCAC/Ivy/etc. to achieve net zero carbon emissions (colby.edu/magazine/colby-lea…). Come on @AmherstCollege, @WilliamsCollege, @Wesleyan_u!
