remember all those who told us right after the Taliban took power again that they had changed and would support womens' education?
🚨 El ministro de Educación afgano ha anunciado que las mujeres tendrán prohibido asistir permanentemente a las escuelas. ONU Mujeres no ha dicho ni una palabra.

So let's get this right. ITV exposes Reform councillors as a bunch of racists so Farage and Yusuf say they they will prosecute ITV if they are in government. Freedom of speech? Only when it's on their terms. Standard fascist behaviour. @Nigel_Farage @ZiaYusufUK @reformparty_uk

Nansi Williams - the heroic dinner lady who died saving the lives of schoolchildren during the Aberfan disaster... On October 21, 1966, a Welsh school dinner lady Nansi Williams threw herself over five children as a wall of coal waste crashed into their school. All five survived. She did not. That morning, children at Pantglas Junior School in Aberfan, Wales, were preparing for their final day before the half-term holiday. Nansi, a local woman who worked in the school dining hall, was collecting dinner money from pupils. Above the village stood enormous mountains of waste from the nearby coal mine. For years, residents had lived beneath them, despite concerns about their stability. At approximately 9:15 a.m., one of those mountains collapsed. Around 150,000 tonnes of coal waste and water surged down the hillside, smashing into houses and engulfing the school. Inside, Nansi saw the danger approaching. She ordered five children to get down, then threw herself over them, using her own body as a shield. The impact killed her. One of the children, Karen Thomas, later recalled how Nansi had jumped on top of them as glass shattered and the wall collapsed. The children initially did not understand that she was dead. They tried pulling her hair to wake her. When rescuers recovered Nansi's body, accounts say she was still clutching a pound note collected for school dinners. The Aberfan disaster killed 144 people, including 116 children. An official inquiry later placed responsibility squarely on the National Coal Board. The catastrophe had been preventable. Nansi had no children of her own. In her final moments, she saved five who belonged to other families. For decades, her extraordinary sacrifice received little recognition beyond the community that remembered her. Now, approaching the disaster's 60th anniversary in October 2026, a campaign to honor her has succeeded. A commemorative Purple Plaque is scheduled to be unveiled in Aberfan on October 30. Five children went home because Nansi Williams never did. #archaeohistories

BREAKING NEWS: Billionaire Sir Richard Branson launches a SCATHING attack on Trump and his disgusting coziness with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that gets under Trump’s skin... "I never thought I’d have to say this in my lifetime, but it’s 2026, and unfortunately, nothing is the way it used to be," wrote Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, on LinkedIn. "The Trump administration has become an enabler of autocrats and dictators, placing their personal whims ahead of the interests of the American people and the free world. What is it about Putin that makes President Trump fawn over him?" "How can America’s allies ever trust this administration again, when it is now turning against them in a time of war and suffering?" he asked. Trump has repeatedly betrayed our Ukrainian allies in recent days. First, he announced a shocking deal with Putin to allow millions of barrels of diesel onto global markets—a move that will inject cash directly into the Russian war machine. Then, he launched a concerted smear campaign against President Zelenskyy, claiming that Putin is "easier to deal with." The betrayals escalated when Washington failed to provide its customary early warning to Kyiv regarding an imminent Russian ballistic missile attack. Now, it appears the White House has ordered a temporary suspension of Starshield—a military version of Elon Musk’s Starlink, upon which the Ukrainian armed forces rely. "The throttling of Starlink/Starshield and the inexplicable failure to provide advance warning of Russian missile launches have already led to the needless deaths of Ukrainian civilians," Branson wrote. "How much worse can it get?" "If one thing is clear, it’s that European leaders must move past the initial shock of Trump’s recent actions and step up. This is as much about European freedom as it is about Ukraine’s sovereignty. Both are worth fighting for," he continued. "Every option should now be on the table—from transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, to delivering advanced weapons systems like the German Taurus." "Why, oh why, is this happening? We cannot allow the free world to be dismantled before our very eyes," Branson concluded. We couldn’t agree more. Trump is an enemy of Ukraine, an enemy of democracy, and an enemy of the American people. When the Democrats regain power, we will have a major task ahead of us. Every trace of this monstrous man’s legacy must be erased. Please ❤️ and share if you think Trump is Putin’s puppet!

I never knew the origin of the Cheshire Homes. Remarkable
Most Victoria Crosses are awarded for a single act of courage. Leonard Cheshire's was awarded for four years of them. He was a bomber pilot with the RAF, and by the end of his career he had flown more than 100 missions over occupied Europe, at a time when most bomber crews didn't survive 30. In 1943 he took command of 617 Squadron, the famous Dambusters. Instead of marking targets from high altitude, Cheshire flew in at rooftop height in a small, fast plane, dove into the flak and searchlights, and dropped marker flares right on top of the target so the heavy bombers behind him couldn't miss. He was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1944. Then the story took a turn. In August 1945, Cheshire was chosen as Britain's official observer on the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. He watched the mushroom cloud rise from an American plane flying alongside the bomber. It changed him. After the war, he took a dying former airman with nowhere to go into his own house and cared for him. That act grew into the Cheshire Homes, a charity that went on to care for disabled people around the world. He spent the rest of his life on it. He died in 1992.
