I am furious at the statements being made diminishing the service of over 40K Canadians who served alongside our #NATO allies in #Afganistan & the 158 of our sons & daughters that made the ultimate sacrifice.
As a #Paramedic in Trenton I stood many times at the first bridge of the #HighwayofHeroes for the repatriation of our fallen soldiers, aircrew, sailors & civilians. Witnessing the grief of their families following behind the hearses, with open windows on the procession vehicles, the family would often call out “thanking us” for honouring their loss. It broke our hearts!
As a senior Paramedic I coordinated the #EmergencyMedicalServices participation on the Highway of Heroes honouring our soldiers. Including the first four soldiers to lose their lives in Afghanistan, killed by American friendly fire.
This unconscionable rhetoric is unforgivable!
