this is what everyone who knew anything about drug policy predicted. we've already tried lengthy mandatory minimums to deter sales. it didn't work when we said the sentences were for selling; why would it suddenly work when we change the name of the crime to murder?
Increasingly, this is who state capitols and courtrooms are holding accountable for the fentanyl crisis - addicts like Josh Askins, who shared drugs with a friend who overdosed, called for help, performed CPR, and then was charged with murder.
