#APday on the Hill
Can't wait to share the amazing impact of AP courses like my very own #APCybersecurity alongside these bright young students from #McKinleyTech in DC!

I’ve hit an interesting point. 10 years ago I was ethically selling browser exploits monthly. Profit was the goal.
Now, I find myself working with OSS developers, many of which tired of awful AI disclosures, to help get them quality reports.
Hearing, “Thank you for actually putting in the work” means much more to me!
So many people are scanning the same codebases with the same harnesses and the same models.
Validation, honest severity calculation, and chaining are what I believe is needed.
Thoughts?

If your code sucks, your agent will too.
So, software fundamentals matter more than ever.
That's why I'm interviewing @unclebobmartin this Wednesday, live on YouTube.
Don't miss it. Link below.
I've seen this coming.
Kids,
1) You can be slightly worried this is the future (maybe present?) of your cars and rockets.
2) Computer Science/Engineering/Cyber fields will remain as relevant as ever. SOMEONE needs to understand how things work.
Last week, we announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of @ENERGY to build Genesis-Science-1 (GS1): an open-weight, trillion-parameter class model built on our Trinity architecture.
To make GS1 a reliable tool for discovery, we are accepting data contributions directly from the scientific community.
When we chose to build and train open-weight models in the United States, we were responding to a practical need across government, healthcare, finance, and other critical institutions. These organizations need to own, adapt, and operate the models their systems depend on.
Today, Microsoft published a shared set of principles on the role of open-weight models in the broader AI ecosystem. Arcee signed alongside industry peers because those principles reflect a position we have held from the beginning.
For sensitive and regulated workloads, institutions need to know what they are deploying and retain control over it. That requires access to the weights, a usable license, a documented training history, and a model supply chain they can account for. A remote API endpoint cannot provide that on its own with.
Open weights allow teams to inspect a model, adapt it for specific domains, deploy it inside controlled environments, and keep proprietary data within their own boundaries.
The industry is increasingly recognizing a practical reality: durable AI capability depends on systems organizations can audit, reproduce, and operate themselves.
We are glad to join Microsoft and our industry peers in supporting open-weight infrastructure. We will continue to back that commitment by building and releasing models that organizations can own and rely on.
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Today, we’re releasing rCTF v2, an open-source platform for hosting cybersecurity capture-the-flag competitions.

ALT The signature rCTF wordmark, white on black with red accenting. A red stylized “v2” sits slanted on the bottom-right side.

ALT A screenshot of rCTF's matrix-style leaderboard displays teams as rows, challenges as columns, and their intersection as the team's solve status on that challenge. Each team has a custom avatars, country flag, and tagline. A sparkline shows the team's scoring activity. The top-left corner of the leaderboard displays a line chart, plotting the visible teams against each other.
This, but also, luck favors the prepared?
The constant is you have to be making *an* investment to make a *smart* investment.
So maybe participation is more important than expertise or "brilliance"
I've been on this app long enough to watch a few cycles occur and there is an interesting one that makes no sense to me.
i.e., someone finds a trade that works (ex storage facilities) they then go on social media, preach the gospel about it, raise money, and find "success".
Only years later to be determined that their success wasn't "success" it was luck and timing.
So....
An entire generation got to learn computing on $35 raspberry pi, software for free with Linux, Python, gcc, etc.
What is the equivalent for AI?
(I don't just mean access. I mean freedom, flexibility, and experimentation for beginners without means)
I’ve had enough
With Fable 5 being gatekept from us, and now GPT 5.6 being gatekept, I’m going full open source
Just went to Microcenter and built this RTX 5090 computer. Will be adding a RTX Pro 6000 to it shortly
This brings my home AI lab to:
• 3 Mac Studio 512gb
• DGX Spark
• RTX 5090
• 2 Mac Minis
I’m building a home AI lab that will allow me to run and support as many local models as possible
I already have Qwen 3.6, Orinth1.0 and GLM 5.2 running. Will be adding more.
They’re all running on my new custom built AI lab platform that’s making sure these models do work 24 hours a day for me
With frontier models being gatekept, and hardware prices becoming outrageous (this build cost $9,000), it was time to pull the trigger
In 1 year I believe prices for hardware will be triple from here. Mac Studios starting at $10,000. Mac Minis starting at $2,000. MacBook Pros starting at $5,000.
2 years from now I don’t believe any hardware will be available to consumers
The time to strike was now and I struck
In an age where intelligence both in the cloud and in your home are being limited, I’m becoming sovereign.
It might be time for you to do the same.
When (if) they recognize the hypocrisy, it's more likely to actually try to ban metasploit (again) than just open up mythos
