Bucha. It was a genocide, recognized by everyone. They buried hundreds of people. They tortured people. We found the grave. There were, I believe, around 500 people. When we liberated those towns near Kyiv, there emerged this, you know, this kind of hatred for the Russians, right at that moment. Not even at the moment when they started the full-scale war. Back then nobody understood what it really was yet. People understood what this war was and what Putin did personally when we found those mass graves of tortured adults, children. I mean they didn't just kill them, they tortured and killed them.
When we liberated Bucha, I said, bring every journalist here. Don't touch anything, just bring the journalists. The whole world simply has to see this. Imagine finding a mass grave in the U.S. or in Britain, God forbid, with 500 tortured people, adults, kids, dogs, animals shot dead. I mean, they held hunting sprees there from military vehicles. People were running, they were shooting, just hunting, playing games. They literally just played with people, like slavery. So how, after this, can you listen to Putin? And how, after this, can you forgive?

in the united states, opposition to ai isn’t fear of technology. americans haven’t suddenly become a nation of luddites.
it’s a well founded belief that those with power are not going to use ai in ways that benefit the average american.
this is not a comms problem.
it’s a trust problem.

Ben Affleck says the day will come when someone can order up an episode of Succession with a plot they have in mind.
He says that could create an extra revenue stream to replace lost DVD revenue.
Affleck says AI isn’t going to end the film and TV business, but certain parts of the industry will be dramatically affected:
“I wouldn’t like to be in the visual effects business. They’re in trouble because what costs a lot of money is now gonna cost a lot less….And maybe it shouldn’t take a thousand people to render something.”
But he says the cost savings will mean more television programming, not less:
“You might be able to get two seasons of House of the Dragon in a year instead of one.”

“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah.
Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah.
Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah.
"The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him.
Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

We just released a short film on our investigation into the U.S. bombing of the Minab school in Iran in the opening hours of the war on February 28,2026.
The stories survivors, parents, first responders and others shared with us will forever haunt me.

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026.
At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day.
It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime.

I appreciated the opportunity to speak with @ezraklein at length about the state of AI. I believe the world isn't awake to the dangers of this technology and the choices humanity has to make. AI will either be the greatest tool for opportunity and equality we've ever seen—or the cause of immense, unprecedented harm. Which way things go is up to us. b-gat.es/4AFZZqC

Ezra Klein asked Bill Gates whether normal corporate incentives are enough to handle AI risks.
Gates doesn’t mince words:
...very interesting & somewhat troubling deep dive look at AI, its potential dangers without control and its potential benefits.
Keeping AI out of the hands of people with bad intentions will be the big challenge.

John Green on J.K. Rowling:
“I think it’s important when we talk about her to talk about the fact that supporting her work now is directly supporting efforts at the erasure of trans people, and that makes me really sad.
I think about all the trans friends I have who have Deathly Hallows tattoos,” Green continues, “and how heartbreaking it is for them to have someone who created something that matters so much to them really betray them.” Will he watch HBO’s upcoming 'Harry Potter' show? “No. No. No.” vanityfair.visitlink.me/sb7Y…
