🚨 MARYLAND: GIANT AND FOOD LION WEBSITES AND APPS DOWN FOLLOWING CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT — GROCERY CHAINS DISRUPTED ACROSS THE EAST COAST.
A cybersecurity incident involving grocery giant Ahold Delhaize has forced several major supermarket chains to shut down online services, disrupting grocery shopping for customers throughout Maryland and beyond.
KEY DETAILS:
▪️ GIANT AND FOOD LION AFFECTED: Websites and mobile apps have been unavailable since Monday, October 12.
▪️ MULTIPLE CHAINS HIT: Stop & Shop, Hannaford and other Ahold Delhaize brands are also experiencing disruptions.
▪️ STORES REMAIN OPEN: Customers can still shop in person, but online ordering and some digital services are affected.
▪️ DELIVERY ALTERNATIVES: Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats remain available. Unfulfilled orders placed through the affected chains’ own platforms will be refunded.
▪️ NO RESTORATION DATE: The company has not announced when normal service will resume.
Ahold Delhaize says it took systems offline as a precaution while investigating the security incident.
THE BIG QUESTION: How vulnerable is America’s grocery supply chain when one company’s cybersecurity incident can disrupt digital services across several major supermarket brands?

Would be neat to see a story from @wbaltv11 on the disparity between @GovWesMoore's initial claims on timelines and costs vs now.

🚨 PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD: $7.6 MILLION IN TAXPAYER GRANTS ORDERED RETURNED FROM CALIFORNIA NONPROFIT — COUNTY EXECUTIVE DEMANDS INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO FUNDING TIED TO COUNCIL CHAIR.
Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy and County Council Chair Krystal Oriadha are demanding the return of approximately $7.6 million in taxpayer-funded grants after questions emerged about how the money was awarded, who controlled it, and the personal connections between the recipient organization and county leadership.
The money was intended to support programs in District 7, but a California-based foundation was selected to help administer the funding.
KEY DETAILS:
▪️ $7.6 MILLION DEMANDED BACK: Braveboy and Oriadha signed a joint letter directing the Edward Charles Foundation, based in Beverly Hills, California, to return the grant funding and other unspent county funds.
▪️ FIVE-DAY DEADLINE: Braveboy told FOX 5 that the organization has five days to return the money and warned that the county would pursue additional measures if necessary.
▪️ PERSONAL CONNECTIONS: Community on the Frontline, the local organization associated with the funding, is led by Janna Parker, identified in reporting as a close friend of Council Chair Oriadha and the godmother of her son.
▪️ COUNCIL-ADMINISTERED GRANTS: Braveboy emphasized that the funding was awarded through the County Council’s grant process, not her administration.
▪️ INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION REQUESTED: Braveboy has requested an investigation by the county auditor, assisted by an outside firm, into funding directed to the organizations since 2024.
▪️ FOLLOW THE MONEY: Investigators are being asked to determine how grants were spent, what accounts held the money, which services were delivered, and what fees the California foundation collected.
▪️ WHY CALIFORNIA? Braveboy questioned why an organization on the opposite side of the country was selected to administer grants for Prince George’s County when local fiscal sponsors were available.
▪️ MORE GRANT OVERSIGHT CONCERNS: In a separate case reported in August, county auditors found that another nonprofit had transferred more than $134,000 in taxpayer grant funding into a personal bank account. That organization was also directed to return money.
BRAVEBOY DEMANDS ANSWERS:
The county executive says retrieving the funds is necessary to protect taxpayers while investigators examine the grant program.
Oriadha, who joined the repayment demand, maintains that no wrongdoing has been established and says there is no evidence the funds are missing.
The county plans to redirect recovered funding toward qualified organizations providing services to District 7 residents.
THE TAXPAYER ACCOUNTABILITY QUESTIONS:
Who approved sending millions in Prince George’s County grant money through a California foundation?
What conflict-of-interest screening was conducted before approving funds associated with an organization led by someone personally connected to the council chair?
How much money remains unspent, how much has already been distributed, and what services have taxpayers actually received?
And why are county officials demanding an accounting of millions of dollars only after questions were publicly raised about the grant process?
The central issue is not whether District 7 deserves funding. It is whether county officials can document where every taxpayer dollar went, who benefited, and whether the grants were properly administered.
No criminal wrongdoing has been established, and the requested investigation remains pending.
