Celebrating my 2 year anniversary working with the NHS @AneurinBevanUHB. Still a privilege to talk to so many people who do amazing things every day and listen to the people they help too🌟

When I joined the NHS I learned a few key values quite rapidly. None so more than how to compassionately listen to others & lead by example with the thanks of @Keeponwalking__ inspiring me from the start. I’m thankful to catch up recently. Inspiring me as I go to work this week

I matter and I belong. #teamwork
"Mattering" is the belief that we’re significant to the world around us. When people feel they matter, they feel seen, important & needed through how others treat them. Scholars have deemed mattering to be a core instinct that drives all human behaviour. That’s why, when someone doesn’t believe they matter at work they: - won’t share their voice if they don’t believe their voice is significant - won’t use their strengths if they don’t believe they have strengths - won’t contribute if they don’t believe they have something to contribute - won’t care as much as if they feel cared for Actions that leaders/ teams can take: see some excellent articles by @ZachMercurio - "How to Create Mattering at Work": zachmercurio.medium.com/how-… and "The Cost of Not Mattering at Work": zachmercurio.medium.com/the-….

Been a bit quiet on here recently but I’ve been involved in a local woodwork group for men the past few weeks amongst other things. Can’t recommend things like this enough. Perhaps I’ll specialise in wonky furniture!

2023: January can feel bleak & a friend reminded me how looking at how far your journey's taken you is always good. But know that getting through a year itself is an achievement, consistently showing up & braving the storm is an achievement. 2024 can be what you make it (1/13)

(13/13) Wrapping up the year, we created a quick fab Christmas video but... the true treasure for me this year was seeing several of my colleagues’ progress and helping them grow where I could. That was priceless to me.

(12/13) I took the plunge with Men’s Health Awareness Month, donning a Mo, highlighting what groups were out there for Gwent men, and highlighting health issues. I actually saw my personal life and career come together as I too proudly join my local group now and then.

(11/13) November and December were challenging months for me but we kept up with the NHS Wales Staff Survey. Speaking to hundreds of staff and encouraging colleagues to get involved and share their experiences.

(10/13) An interview with alcohol care nurse John inspired me to give Go Sober October a go alongside many others for the first time. And thanks to him and giving it a go, it interestingly gave me a different perspective on my alcohol intake.

(9/13) We highlighted the GACU service with Catherine’s story and it was a privilege to speak with both Catherine and Gaz earlier in the year. A prime example of a service that saves beds and costs for the health board.

(8/13) I participated in a recruitment campaign to help roles in Monmouthshire by flag shipping the beauty of working and living in Monmouthshire. Privileged to speak to several GPs, Practice Nurses, and Pharmacists. In fact, it helped me understand primary care so much more.

(7/13) Lee spoke to us of his journey with Bowel cancer. I’ll leave the pro golfing to him, but he left me feeling inspired to help other men and has been a true highlight of my year. There is power in sharing experiences and helping others. Lee's story: abuhb.nhs.wales/news/news/lo…
