Three Limpopo Police Officers Arrested After 46 Undocumented Foreign Nationals Allegedly Disappeared While Being Transported To Polokwane Police Station
Three police officers attached to Polokwane International Airport in Limpopo have been arrested for allegedly defeating the administration of justice and contravening the Immigration Act. The arrests were made on Monday, 19 October 2026, by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, assisted by the Polokwane Tactical Response Team, following an investigation into the alleged disappearance of undocumented foreign nationals.
The case dates back to 17 April 2025, when a traffic officer intercepted a 22-seater Mercedes-Benz minibus along the N1 near Polokwane, transporting 46 undocumented foreign nationals. The vehicle was escorted to the Polokwane N1 Weighbridge, where their immigration status was confirmed. Police officers from Polokwane International Airport were summoned to assist.
It is alleged that four male police officers and one female officer arrived and told the arresting traffic officer that arrangements had been made with the station commander to transport the 46 foreign nationals to Polokwane SAPS for further processing. However, when the station commander and traffic officer followed up, neither the officers nor the foreign nationals could be found. The matter was referred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.
Following the investigation, the Director of Public Prosecutions directed that all five implicated officers be charged. The three arrested suspects, two men and one woman aged between 44 and 49, are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistratesโ Court on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. Efforts to locate the remaining two suspects are continuing. Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers welcomed the arrests and commended the investigators.

ANCWL Demands Disciplinary Action Against Gwede Mantashe Following 'Derogatory' Media Remarks
The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) has officially called for internal disciplinary action and a public apology from ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe following "derogatory" and "gratuitously improper" remarks he made to the press.
The controversy erupted during a recent media interaction when a Newsroom Afrika journalist questioned Mantashe regarding ongoing allegations of "sex-for-jobs" practices affecting parts of South Africa's labour force. Instead of addressing the critical systemic problem, Mantashe reportedly responded with offensive language that has drawn severe backlash from within his own party ranks.
In an official statement released on Sunday, ANCWL Secretary-General Nokuthula Nqaba expressed deep distress over the incident, emphasising that Mantashe's conduct stands in direct violation of the ANC's core operational values. The League noted that as a historical movement founded on non-sexism, equality, and foundational moral values, its leaders must always carry themselves with revolutionary morality.
"We call for him to be subjected to organisational disciplinary action in response to his repeated insults and attacks on women," the ANCWL statement reads, firmly adding that they "reject the use of his age to excuse his dishonourable conduct."
The League took it upon themselves to formally extend an apology to the affected Newsroom Afrika journalist and urged the broader ANC national leadership to swiftly reprimand Mantashe. The ANCWL asserted that as an organisational elder, Mantashe is expected to guide society with wisdom and respect rather than subjecting women to morally objectionable treatment.
The top management of the ANC has yet to publicly comment on whether formal disciplinary protocols will be initiated against the national chairperson.
