I looked up people who identify as Tony Elumelu on Facebook and saw different person. I asked AI if the name was trademarked, it said NO.
In light of this, why would someone be arrested for just saying something without any pictorial addition after he said the name. (I am not taking sides with him for what he said) but, why was someone arrested for saying “Tony Elumelu wife, I get the full gist”

Today, we come again with humble hearts and sincere remorse.
To Mr. Tony Elumelu, CFR, we are deeply sorry for the disrespectful words spoken by our son, Deriko. We do not seek to justify his actions. We only plead for mercy, forgiveness and compassion.
Deriko is just 19 years old, and since his arrest on 18 September, our family has lived with deep pain and anxiety. His case has been adjourned to 9 November, while he is expected to begin his final-year examinations on Monday, 28 September.
Sir, we respectfully ask you to look upon this young man with mercy. One mistake should not erase the possibility of a second chance.
From Deriko and his entire family, we are truly, deeply and sincerely sorry. Please, sir, have mercy 🙏🙏🥺

The actions of Deriko was childish and inappropriate, and the family agrees to that .
Deriko made those statements without knowing the consequences of such actions and has owned up to his mistakes
Deriko, 19 years old, has been in detention since 18 September following the unfortunate comment he made.
His case has already come before the court and has been adjourned to 9 November.
What makes this even more painful for the family is that Deriko is scheduled to begin his final-year ND examinations on Monday, 28 September.
We humbly appeal to Mr. Tony Elumelu and everyone touched by this situation to please consider Deriko’s sincere remorse and youthful age and extend mercy and forgiveness to him.
