Happy World Oceans Day, everyone! 🌊 We’re fortunate to live with the majesty of the ocean in our backyard, and we work to learn more about the marine environment and conserve it for generations to come. To learn more about World Oceans Day, click here: worldoceanday.org/

Sea turtle nests are hatching all around Dominica, and our team has captured some amazing footage of the young turtles! In this photo, one of our team members explains the hatching process to curious onlookers. #dominica #natureisle #commmunity #conservation #seaturtle

Turtle season is upon us!! ⚠️ 🐢 Watch for your chelonian neighbors as you venture back into the world, because they are too! They’re traveling across the roads that separate them from their nesting grounds, and many crossing are females full of eggs to lay.

We've come a long way in our journey to build the Rosalie Conservation Training Center, but now we need your help! We've started a GoFundMe to raise money for construction costs. Click here to learn more about the RCTC and help bring this project to life: buff.ly/31jHCbs
Sea turtle size varies between species. A #hawksbill sea turtle can reach about 3 feet long and weigh up to 150 lbs (68 kg), while #leatherback sea turtles can grow to be about twice as long and 10x as heavy!

Here's one way that #greenseaturtles maintain healthy ocean ecosystems - by grazing on seagrass! Seagrass beds thrive off of regular "trims" from green sea turtles.
Green turtles are mostly herbivores when adults, feeding almost exclusively on sea grass. Studies have shown sea grass grazed by turtles to be healthier than those that are not. buff.ly/1tipsE6

Signs of a successful hatching event. Sea turtles hatch by breaking out of their leathery eggs, climbing to the surface of the nest, and crawling across the beach to the ocean. When our team checks on a nest and finds it like this, we know that the young turtles have hatched!
Have you ever seen a turtle yawn? Our Education Ambassador Blandella wants to give you a little demonstration!

Sea turtles are vulnerable to ocean pollution at all stages of life. Pollutants include things like oil spills, toxic metals, and agricultural runoff such as fertilizers, nutrients, and untreated waste. Learn about ocean pollution: bit.ly/3iBhKyX

Construction on the Rosalie Conservation Center (RCC) has begun! Our team recently completed the road leading to the RCC, and we hope to have the hurricane-proof building built by the end of this year. We'll continue to share updates on the process!
When sea turtles hatch from their eggs, they're tiny enough to fit in the palm of your hand. But the largest sea turtle species we encounter in our work, the leatherback sea turtle, can grow to over 6 feet long and up to 1500lbs!
