Burnley used to be one of the best clubs in terms of operating cash flow, which is the cash generated from day to day running of the business. If you have negative operating cash flow then either need player sales or owners/lenders needed to keep the lights on. Figures per @valuball

As often Got to agree with Henry here, and FWIW I’ve never heard the words Leveraged BuyOut and ‘Classy’ in the same sentence so no surprise about the classless statement put out by the owners. Good luck finding £400k a week to pay the interest charges too if relegated.
Burnley 22nd in the Championship, players not responding to coach Nicky Hayen, whacked 4-1 by Lincoln City, so no great surprise that Hayen sacked after 14 games (one win). But… even by football standards the club's curt 26-word dismissal statement is unnecessarily brutal (and naïve) for four reasons... First, it’s classless towards a departing member of staff, however underachieving, so what does that say about the owners’ treatment of people? What message does it send to potential successors? Second, Hayen was the board’s appointment. What does that say about their judgement? Nb: new technical director incoming who should understand football better than chairman Alan Pace. Third, it highlights the mess, not least in recruitment, that Hayen stepped into. Did he have a chance? Relegated squad, sold best players (last two club POTYs Flemming & Esteve + Anthony), is there enough fight in the team? Fourth, highlights the club’s financial problems. Burnley used to be well-run. Board have to make the right appointment, remember Burnley are a football club as well as a business and engage better with increasingly disaffected fans. Burnley fans deserve better than what Pace and ALK Capital are giving them. #twitterclarets

Burnley walloped 4-1 at newly promoted Lincoln City today, an eminently better run club. Now winless at home in over a year, three league victories in that time and in Championship relegation zone. Fellow ALK club Espanyol have four wins in 2026 and are in La Liga's bottom three
Since Burnley's Dec 2020 leveraged takeover, gone from solid if unremarkable PL club with no borrowings to a (bad) yo-yo side, £113m in debt, costing £10m+ annually at rates from 8.5% to 12.75% Over four years on, owners ALK Capital still not filed any UK parent company accounts

Burnley Football Club has dismissed Head Coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect. The Board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season.

“Apology to the fans” from Nicky Hayen when I spoke to the beleaguered Burnley boss for talkSPORT. Critical of “mentality” & the body language of his players. Also their defending. Hopes to continue “but I know how it goes in this game.” #Clarets
FT Lincoln City 4 Burnley 1. Red letter day for the Imps, 1st home win in the Championship. Well deserved. But a day crimson with embarrassment for Burnley who caved in after leading. Imps scorers, House, Ladofoget (2) & Jefferies. (Plus a brilliant George Wickens penalty save).
