Dear #LibLearnX23, if anyone picked up a Narwhal and Jelly tote you’re not so interested in, I will gladly take it. Or a certain 7-year-old I know who has read them all! The booth ran out, and I’m desperate. 😅

As we are nearing completion, I wanted to share about View it!, a project I have been managing for the last 6 months. When installed, this tool surfaces images as you browse Wikipedia and sister projects, making it easier to quickly visualize. diff.wikimedia.org/2023/01/2…

To use View it!, you currently need to be logged into a Wikimedia account. You install it by pasting some template code to your JavaScript page, following these simple instructions: meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/View…. You can leave feedback for the team on that page's talk page as well.

We're proud View it! is already approaching nearly 200 users, and hope to see further experiments in using structured data to improve visual content. Thanks to @Wikimedia for funding this project. View it! was a collaborative effort of myself, @KevinPayravi and @jamieefl. 🔎

I am so shocked and saddened by the news of Effie Kapsalis' death. She was not just a friend and colleague, but a professional icon of mine. She was a driven, smart, and generous person who made the world better through her tireless advocacy. She is irreplaceable.
It is with great sadness to report that Effie Kapsalis @digitaleffie is no longer with us. She was a fierce advocate for open access to knowledge at the @Smithsonian and beyond, and a passionate @Wikipedia supporter. @MuseumCN #Museweb #OpenGLAM #GLAMwiki everloved.com/life-of/effie-…

I first met Effie when I was an intern over a decade ago. I can't really add to the all the praise that is pouring in. What I can say is when we'd cross paths at a conference, she was one of my favorite people to be around, and I feel lucky for our many conversations.

She was incredibly engrossing, and had great stories. But not just interesting, she was always interested. She had a way of treating everyone like an equal, and, despite being so incredibly busy, was curious about others' work and eager to help. It's why she has touched so many.

Dear @indystar, there are factual errors in this important guide to voting. It states: "Early in-person voting ends at noon the day before to receive permission to vote by mail." There seems to be an editing error, where two sentences were combined?

This can be verified on the SOS web site: in.gov/sos/elections/voter-i… I see the article was changed within the last hour, so maybe an error was introduced in editing.

I also note use of the word "Indianan", which I assume was an honest mistake or typo, but very grating! 😈
