At Arrowe Park, the Trust has admitted that nurse consultants have been covering doctor shifts and carrying out work in place of medical consultants.
Patients deserve transparency about who is providing their care. We’ve written to the Trust asking why doctors are being replaced in this way.

More than 350 new jobs, instead of the 250 initially planned. This is just the first step towards ending the resident doctors job crisis in England. More info on the new jobs, and the BMA’s work for you, is in members’ email inboxes now.

This is unbelievable - I can’t actually believe this is happening in UK General practice!
Patient (a doctor) develops new concerning skin lesion & explains needs a GP appt for a potential SKIN CANCER
🚩
To find his appt is with a PHYSIOTHERAPIST?!!
Surely this is illegal?!

Did you know if an unqualified person treated or operated on an animal, it would be considered a criminal offence?
This is under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
Currently, in the UK, your dog has more healthcare protection than you.

I'm now getting official BMA comms slagging off the BMA leadership.
Amateurish, infuriating and frankly makes me embarrassed to be a member.
Keep your petty factional infighting out of my inbox and try to behave like an actual trade union. Jesus wept.
This is a deeply distressing case. No child should have to endure such pain, and no parent should be left carrying the guilt and trauma that this family has experienced
Patients and families have a right to know if the person providing treatment is or is not a doctor.
Almost a year since its publication, key recommendations of Professor Leng’s review remain unfulfilled, despite being accepted by Government.
A five-year-old was prescribed the wrong treatment after a breakdown in communication between healthcare professionals.
Our investigation found failings at every stage and that better communication could have prevented this entirely.

Just so we are clear
An individual did all of this- and is still working
On top of that- something new via @ConorGogarty
And I had to raise issues with @gmcuk regards laptop issues and changing their position on doctor concerned
I will repeat.
Lesser trained people doing work beyond their scope and regulation will harm the general public.
Throw in the added issues of fraud...and the extent to which national organisations have been trying to bulldoze the whole thing through?
Is astonishing
Any comments from @RCPhysicians ?
Oh they left due to scrutiny...sorry..toxicity.
As a reminder?
@lengreview came out in July 2025.

This is as naive as it is dangerous
It cannot be controversial to say that doctors’ rotas must staffed by fully qualified doctors
The naivety of asserting that another profession’s integrity and boundaries are unimportant whilst representing a profession yourself is astounding
‘Advanced practice physiotherapists are highly trained, regulated practitioners who provide expert care to patients in a range of settings across the NHS.
‘Their skills, knowledge and expertise complement what other professions bring to teams treating patients and have an exceptionally strong record on safety.'
The CSP has responded strongly to media claims over the weekend around the safety of advanced practice roles in the NHS.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The advanced practice role/title itself lacks separate statutory regulation, protected title status, and profession-specific regulatory standards.

No one has a problem with advancing skills in a base profession
However, a physiotherapist should NEVER be on a medical rota
No physio should be managing abdo pain, sick children, medical patients etc in the same way as a doctor of ANY grade
This is not controversial to state.

Now that it’s been 💯 proven doctors are being substituted maybe the DH & RCN should get their comms better aligned?
I’m not sure how the BMA shedding light on almost half of Trusts defying DH guidance is a “staged media intervention”
Sounds like a valid safety concern to me?

A friend in a nearby hospital has told me their specialty has kicked specialty trainees out of their office, reserving it for ANPs.
A quote from a consultant “we’re hoping to phase out trainees from the service, and just have ANPs”
The ladder pulling is just unfathomable
DoctorsUnited retweeted
What fresh hell is this?!
A job advert for a haematology PA - with NO medical degree in a specialty with some of the sickest patients to:
🚩review unwell pts
🚩 LEAD ward rounds
🚩procedures including paracentesis, lumbar punctures & bone marrow sampling
🚩discharge patients

It's wild that paramedics, nurses, and physios have been openly bragging for years about replacing Doctors
Then when it's called out they play the victim card
The real victims are the patients
"I think it is scandalous that the NHS is allowing the substitution of doctors by individuals without sufficient medical knowledge instead of the obvious response to doctor shortages: hiring more doctors." Dr Mel Ryan, BMA lead on preventing doctor substitution.

Now RCP has finally stated the blindingly obvious where does that leave doctors supervising non-medical substitutes & how are patients supposed to navigate this?
In the meantime almost half of Trusts are officially operating outside of Royal College guidance
Is there a plan?

West Streetng has long faced charges that his cosy relationship to private medical firms and their funding means he will give them too much say and NHS money.

I have never come across a doctor introducing themselves as:
“An advanced, autonomous, expert registered, highly skilled, and knowledgeable doctor with god-tier skills and experience.”
DoctorsUnited retweeted
Today Wes Streeting overruled NICE so he personally buys medication for the entire NHS
He did this so he can give an extra £6.4bn a year to the USA for nothing
Paying Doctors an extra £0.6bn a year is too expensive
But 10x as much for Donald Trump is done without question
DoctorsUnited retweeted
It’s not controversial or punching down to say you need a medical degree to work as a doctor
It’s just common sense
Leadership that have enabled this have a lot of explaining to do IMHO
The BMA has warned that the widespread use of “non-doctors” in medical roles is “simply not safe” and may be driven by hospitals using staff who are cheaper than doctors to save money
