Why at 18? I knew I wanted one then but I was nowhere near prepared. My decent GPA and decent SAT was combined with extensive (at the time) STEM extracurricular activities. The outside interest and experiences were more influential than my ability to test well.

Is there a reason why the Sickle Cell Disease research community is so cagey with the actual mutations in HGVS nomenclature? Am I missing something because Beta6Glu>Val means nothing to me and I shouldn't have to hunt this hard for c. and p. information.

Now ask yourself how many moments of valuation like this - in job interviews, at their job, in raising money for a business, in conversations with their doctors, in interactions with police - exist in every Black life and what the aggregated consequences are across generations.

It's the little things. Like the first assumption being that I don't work here just because you haven't seen me around here. Innocent assumptions but a bevy of observations could have given them a more informed assumption.

We're just asking that you think a little bit harder and just tad bit longer.

Every once in a while I think about Dr. Miranda Bailey writing her NIH grant proposal in like 12 hours and I get a lil annoyed all over again.

Fun tidbit. The summer I was a Meyerhoff Summer Bridge counselor was Dr. Bediako's first summer running one of the courses for the students. I felt like I learned right along side them.
Replying to @CAMBUpenn

'Will I ever commit the insulin-glucose relationship to memory?', she asks herself after reviewing it for the 4th time in 6 months.

So you're just going to set this tweet up to be easily understood and shared WITHOUT mentioning that this is data from a fight from March 23rd, 2020? In these times this is how you choose to communicate science?

I feel like I am almost out of the hole. Just a few more stops of hyperpigmentation left. I definitely think a decrease in stress has helped

my various transitions from high school to postdoc were guided by speaking up about my interests (especially what I wasn't interested in) and of course the privilege of involved parents and an evolving network. #BIGxWeek #BIGxStory

more highlights: I took a genetics course in high school. I don't know why it was offered. I don't know if it existed before/after I took it. I had a sub for like 75% of the class. The genetics chapter was always my favorite section of every intro bio course.

I also want to highlight @IjeomaKola and the @CohortSistas Podcast. Collecting Black Women's stories across disciplines and creating a community for our collective successes cohortsistas.com/
