"I have confidence in what I do in my career. But I did not know myself." After 33 years editing for @KenBurns, Erik Ewers says the film that changed his life was his own — on youth mental illness. What's the difference between knowing your craft and knowing yourself? --- Erik has edited nearly every Ken Burns film since The Civil War. Multiple Emmy winner. ACE Eddie Award winner. One of the most accomplished documentary editors in American history. But the film that taught him who he is wasn't one of Burns' — it was Hiding in Plain Sight, his own @PBS documentary on youth mental illness. And it was his brother Chris who created the space for that to happen. This is one of the most honest conversations we've had on Documentary First. 🎙️ New episode drops tomorrow. Thoreau asks us to wake up. Not politically. Not environmentally. Personally. To recognize where we've been sleepwalking — and where we have agency. Where in your life have you been sleepwalking? --- Chris Ewers co-directed the new @PBS documentary series Henry David Thoreau, executive produced by Ken Burns and Don Henley. In this clip, he distills what Thoreau was really asking — not just of his generation, but of ours. A call to live deliberately. To reevaluate our values, choices, and opinions.
