We spend an incredible amount of our lives somewhere else. Thinking about yesterday. Planning tomorrow. Remembering someone. Wondering what could have been. Staring into screens that take us anywhere except where we actually are. That idea became my artwork, Somewhere Else. 🧵👇 1/8

END OF AN ERA. A NEW CHAPTER AWAITS. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve said goodbye to CryptoPunk #8348 for $5.9M. This wasn’t an easy decision. I spent months flip-flopping on whether to sell, but after more than six years, I felt it was time. This Punk became my identity, so there was a lot more to think about than just the price. I wanted to write this earlier, but the transaction literally happened in a beer tent at Oktoberfest... So I needed some time to collect my thoughts. The 2021 NFT mania was insane. It gave me the opportunity to explore digital identity in ways I never expected when I bought 8348 in 2020 for $18,000. I DJ’d across Europe, North America and the Middle East, worked with luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Swarovski (with mmERCH) and Dolce & Gabbana, and helped curate art events in Miami, Ibiza and London. I also released original music, vinyl records, merchandise, and much more. Looking back, I accomplished a lot with this Punk. But the landscape has changed considerably since then, and my interests and priorities have evolved too. Over the last 12–18 months, I’ve been winding down parts of the Seedphrase business and refocusing on what’s next. That’s meant going back to my roots in trading, which was my focus before 2020, taking on new challenges in gaming with Wolf Game, and exploring new possibilities with AI. On the creative side, I want to see what I can do under my own name. DJing without a helmet, playing more of my own taste in music, and being more involved in the art scene as Danny. I’ve spent six years building an identity around 8348, and I’m ready to give myself a bit more freedom to explore outside of that. I’m proud of what we built with this Punk. Selling it doesn’t change that, or my interest in the space. There’s still plenty I want to do here. I won’t reveal the new owner’s identity. They’re welcome to come forward in their own time. One of the first things I asked was that they be a good custodian of such a legendary CryptoPunk, and they’ve assured me they will. 8348 has been a huge part of my life since 2020. It’s strange to move on from something so many people know me by, but I’m excited to put that same energy into what comes next. You’ll be seeing more of me. Just without the helmet (and with fewer traits).

It's inspiring to see how much building & writing the CENTS heads do this is a 3D renderer that @0x613b10 made as an independent initiative. It uses endpoints that @daidatep built for cents vision, another independent initiative. Which in turn uses the index of emergent traits cataloged by the Trait Council, another independent initiative. And these indie initiatives all use the indie turtles that go all the way down to the urinitiative.
some very cool updates to the 3D CENTS site max shareability 👊👊 gif, png, mp4 trait-based search transparent bkgnd customizable studio settings absolutely heartening to witness how much the community builds around this project awesome work @0x613b10!!! [and yes, the reverse of an irl cent is upside-down in relation to its obverse]

GM from the VORTEX at Block 960577 Art on Bitcoin that dances on and on, forever, the choreography defined by the patterns in the numbers. Not long now until the block numbers have 7 digits instead of 6. It makes no difference. The code will find the patterns, and set the dance accordingly. AOB 🔥

In a world of big data, the Bitcoin blockchain is small pristine data by design. Immutable and secure. Nothing is lost. AI can discover, verify, and interpret every transaction with perfect clarity. A truly unique medium for art and historic artifacts.

Discover hidden details in "Frank"👇 Did you know that in “Frank” the lighting of the outputs corresponding to winter months is dimmer and darker than that for summer months? I recommend collecting at least these 2 variations. [below, December vs June] Designing the lighting algo this way, it not only increases the chromatic variety of the outputs, but it also turns the collection into a full record of the passing of months. @artblocks_io

amazing to see Rutherford Chang in this survey of major systems artists of the last 60 years ✊ a milestone ✊ Chang's work, as we witness with CENTS, roots in the undercurrents that drive history.

CENTS brought Ordinals into UCCA, one of the world’s leading contemporary art institutions. CENTS was selected by Christie’s for Beyond the Screen, a highly curated digital art auction that positioned digital art within the wider contemporary art landscape. CENTS is the only ordinal that has a chapter in TASCHEN’s On NFTs and it has been written about by Frieze, Monopol, e-flux, Bitcoin Magazine, Art in America … … and I’m not even talking about the community yet :-)

I agree, the NFT space has huge potential, but right now it’s still largely dominated by commercial illustration, graphic work, and meme-driven pieces. That’s fun and accessible, yet it makes it harder for digital art to earn the same serious respect and valuations as traditional fine art. What the ecosystem really needs is more serious, deep artists (whether they come from traditional backgrounds or are purely digital-native) who bring sustained studio rigor, psychological depth, and long-term commitment to the medium. When that happens consistently, I believe the whole space will mature and prices will follow.

This was all streamed from Bitcoin using Ordinals. The 3D world supports real-time multiplayer interactions, and decentralized land ownership. All this is on-chain on Bitcoin, and as immutable and secure as Bitcoin itself. The weather in the world reacts to Bitcoin fees, clouds are linked to transaction volume, and time in the world is determined by block height. Makes sense for a Bitcoin world. Real-time multiplayer interactions is one of the newest features. This is particularly difficult to do because Bitcoin block times are ~10 minutes. Bitcoin has been around for 17 years, and we're now seeing fascinating new things being built on top of it.

Not a GM, but perhaps an inevitable one. The Blackdove acquisition fell through, and as things stand this is the end for Foundation. The crazy thing is, with 400k website visits a month and 342k followers on X, the brand, domain and socials have incredible value and there's something that could be salvaged. The site (as it was) cost too much to run. Thousands per month just for the infra. With almost no revenue coming in, that could only end one way. A revived Foundation wouldn't need to make those same choices. That might or might not happen, but for now the key takeaway is that any artwork minted on the FND contracts will be pinned for one year only. After that time, it is lost unless people take action to preserve their creations and collections.
