This reaction isn’t surprising. Pew found 64% of Black adults grew up discussing racial challenges with family, while 91% of White adults said those conversations rarely or never happened.
Maybe some of the #Lanterns “woke” reaction is discomfort to convos some didn't have?🤷🏿♂️
the discourse around Lanterns shows why comic book projects don’t usually dare to take on some of the deeper societal issues in their shows because you guys can’t handle nuance and truly see everything as black and white.
you are uncomfortable acknowledging racism, and also uncomfortable acknowledging how John’s parents are using racism which is a real issue and weaponizing it against their own son for John Sr’s failure at becoming the Lantern because the ring CHOSE HIM FIRST.
you are uncomfortable acknowledging that Hal will never have to have some of the obstacles John has due to race, but not seeing how the show is screaming at you that Bernadette’s worldview is flawed and she isn’t acknowledging Hal’s own fearless built from watching his father blow up as a child which TRAUMATIZED him and gave him a large portion of his fearlessness, something John has never had to experience.
you see the abusive cycle John is put through in the show and the way Bernadette justifies it and think the show is trying to tell you this is just because Hal is white. No
Episode 3 of Lanterns wants you to UNDERSTAND John, not tell you Hal shouldn’t have the ring because he’s white 🤦♀️
Since I'm an extrovert, I am the opposite. Some friends in undergrad (all introverts) had the restaurant sing Happy Birthday to me. Little did they know I love that song and free cake!
Replying to @IntrovertProbss
If you drag me away from my library and to some public place, then tell them it's my birthday so they all come out singing and clapping and make me the focus of the entire restaurant because you thought it would be funny, I will block your number and ghost you forever.

On #MLKDay, I’m reflecting on dignity, not as a slogan, but as a daily practice.
How people are treated in everyday moments matters.
If your DEI work is being questioned, it’s time to ask how it’s being done — not whether it should exist.

This Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the generations of Black communities who bravely fought for freedoms abroad – even when those same freedoms were often denied to them at home. From the Tuskegee Airmen to the Six Triple Eight, Black veterans have made vital and often overlooked contributions to this country's history.
Today we honor their courage, resilience, and service that has undoubtedly helped shape the U.S.

Here's why the #VotingRightsAct remains vital to us all--fair and equal representation. Just consider the sacrifices.
October 20, 1967 - a pivotal moment in history. In Meridian, Mississippi, seven out of 18 men were convicted for their roles in the tragic 1964 deaths of civil rights workers registerubg black voters. The mastermind, Edgar Ray Killen, evaded justice until 2005—over 40 years later.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life to securing and protecting voting rights. The King Center honors those who sacrificed so much, and we invite you to recommit to a future where the right to fair representation isn’t diminished. Let's make it happen together!

💙 As Sept ends, we’ll soon see pink ribbons everywhere — NFL gear, yogurt cartons, PSAs — all for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Prostate cancer kills thousands — Black men are nearly twice as likely to die.
Awareness = equity. Screenings save lives.

On this day we celebrate #WomensEqualityDay to mark the day the U.S. Senate adopted the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote.
Black women would wait nearly 50 years later to vote.
Some black women suffrages who paved the Path to the Ballot Box.
A THREAD
Every generation has a lane:
Traditionalists = stability,
Boomers = consistency,
Gen Xers = adaptability,
Millennials =innovation,
Gen Z = urgency! They are "ready to shake the table" they have been invited to.
The question: How do we merge lanes without collisions?
Why do advocates seem to drift???
@AaronMMaybin stated that movements work when everyone knows their role:
🎨 Visionaries
🧠 Strategists
💪🏾 Frontline soldiers
But when we veer out of our lanes, we crash.
Know your role. Stay in your lane.
