In 2008 @DubCityCouncil reviewed @jcdecauxireland advertising panels over risks to #blind & partially sighted pedestrians who risked walking into them or being cut by their sharp edge. Lessons not learnt #MakeWayDay #MakeWayDay26 with the same design now all over Dublin
On a 15 minute walk on Make Way Day in #limerickcity 15 vehicles blocking footpaths, one forcing someone with a buggy onto the road. #makewayday #makewayday26 @DisabilityFed
Tomorrow Friday 29 May is Make Way Day 2026. AOTI fully supports this important @DisabilityFed campaign. Public spaces belong to everyone. Cars on footpaths, bicycles illegally parked or bins left on footpaths are obstacles that can stop people with disabilities in their tracks.
Tomorrow is Make Way Day!!
A car on the footpath. A bin in the middle of the path. An A-board outside a café. Small things to most of us but barriers for wheelchair users, people who are blind, and others with mobility needs.
Get out, spot an obstacle, share it. #MakeWayDay26

Today is #MakeWayDay, an annual campaign led by the Disability Federation of Ireland, bringing communities together to highlight the needs for people with disabilities in the public spaces we share.

The Government has launched a public consultation on the Cost of Disability, and the deadline is 7th April. Here, IWA's John Fulham explains why we're encouraging people to take part in this consultation.
IWA and other disability organisations are still campaigning for an Emergency Disability Payment, but in the meantime, it's really important that our leaders hear how people with disabilities are being affected by additional costs.
If you would like to take part in the Government's public consultation, you can do so here: gov.ie/en/department-of-soci…

We are very worried.
Fuel prices are spiralling.
People with disabilities were already struggling to heat their homes before this latest crisis. Some were already having to choose between being warm or putting food on their table!
The Government cannot ignore what is happening. Provide financial assistance now! #EmergencyDisabilityPayment

Why is it Government are so quick to react to other groups when they threaten action off the back of a cost of living crisis?
And rightly so but…….
Government are very happy to ignore our calls in the Disabilty and Caring community for emergency supports even though the ERSI has stated we are at the greatest risk of poverty in this cost of living crisis.

To celebrate International Women's Day, here's what our National Advocacy Manager Joan Carthy has to say about the significance of this day:
"International Woman’s Day is not only about celebrating women, it is also a reminder of the continued work that needs to be done, for women to realise and enjoy equal rights.
"My journey in disability advocacy has shown me that rights only matter when they are backed by justice and real action. International Women’s Day is a call to keep pushing for a society where every woman and girl, including disabled women, can live with dignity, voice and equal power."
Joan will be speaking on a webinar with The Wheel to mark International Women's Day on Thursday 12th March. Register here: bit.ly/4ueVD6m

Our members are suffering.
For the last three budgets the Government has recognised the cost of disability with one off payments.
In Budget 26 they removed these payments without replacing them.
People with disabilities are now up to 1400 euro worse off.
It is the difference between living and surviving.
It is having to choose between eating and heating.
We are asking for a €400 emergency disability payment.
But the Government is saying no.
Join our protest on Saturday February 28th!
