I just checked one of the open ai slop drop papers. What can I say - not exactly whelming. Three examples: 1) The main Theorem 1.1 is written quite weird (see picture) 2) The Lemma 2.1 is also written weirdly (what is the slope of an index?) and also quite standard. 1/n

3) The counterexample is fine - but there is an obvious simpler one: Two atoms suffice because of symmetry. Weird how chatGPT missed that and even made "only three atoms" a selling point for the main theorem. 2/n

I did not check citations yet. There are some descent ones, but it does not look like everything relevant is included (and some results they prove should have been cited). My conclusion: This paper would get a reject and resubmit in mid tier journal.

Mathematicians are OUTRAGED that their high social status, with its accompaniment of wealth, women, and general extravagance, has been encroached upon by artificial intelligences of humble background.

"Problem X has fallen" is a framing I've never connected with. I can relate to the feeling that working on a hard problem is a battle, but I don't see the problem as an enemy to be defeated. I see it as something to understand, and understanding isn't something that gets beaten.

All well-posed problems are alike; each ill-posed problem is ill-posed in its own way.

Move on?
What do you do when you have an AI-generated solution to a nice problem, but someone else posts the same solution before you because you spent too long polishing the exposition?

But of you think that polishing the output added any value, then go on and finish it and publish it somehow.

I think my hottest AIxMath take is this psychoanalysis of why people use AI systems to produce math PDFs they don’t understand. (A footnote to this essay: proofsandprompts.com/2026/09…)

I hereby rename "Applied Mathematics" to "Super Mathematics". Having "Applied" in front does not transport how super useful it is. The most useful among like basically everything.
I hereby rename "Computer Science" to "Super Science." Putting "Computer" in front makes it sound like a fake science, but it's very real, super real, the realest of the real

Had a hard time grading seminar reports and presentations recently (you know, AI). Idea for next seminar: Give students papers I did not read (but would like to). They need to explain the paper to me and the grade is determined only by how good I understand.

Very wise
I learned German as a student to communicate with people in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. They learned English to prevent that.

Signs that academia may be for you: * eduroam works on the first try * you get your travel reimbursement without having to email anyone twice * you understand your institution’s course management system
