ALT What is Basic Allotment? It is currently $6,160 per student, as determined by the formula "A=$6,160 x (TR/MCR)" where "A" is the allotment to which a district is, "TR" which is the district's Tier One M&O tax rate and "MCR" is the state maximum compressed tax rate. Basic Allotment has not increased since 2019. $6,160 in 2019 has the buying power of $4,953 as of February 2025.

ALT What are Specialized Allotments? These allotments provide additional funding for each student based on their specialized learning needs. The TEA has determined that each school district receives $10,800 per student based on an average of these allotments, which creates a misleading and inaccurate picture of public school funding as it is impossible for every student to be eligible for every specialized allotment.

ALT A Budgeting Roller Coaster: As inflationary costs go up, so do campus bills and the cost of living for teachers and staff. When property taxes go up, so does our district's recapture payment. As enrollment declines, so do our funds. When unfunded mandates increase, so does our deficit. Current numbers do not reflect projections or reality for funding the next several school years.

ALT How can we close the gap? LISD is asking to raise the basic allotment by $1,340 per student to address inflation and provide competitive pay for staff. LISD has also made reductions in numerous categories, including admin costs, changing middle school schedules and retiring five elementary school campuses.
