Seriously, I can't believe I'm already missing this show...it's so goofy, and irreverent, so foul so disgusting (if you're a Normie weirdo, that is)... But its so oddly indicative of what your 20s *should* be like- going unrewarded for your efforts, losing jobs, getting jobs, developing addictions, watching your peers deal with their own addictions, seeing them fail in real time, and somehow, in spite of it all- living to see that Next Thing: the next job, the next month's rent, the next relationship, even just the next cigarette...

With deep apologies and total deference to Hunter S. Thompson... (bonus points if you get any references) Fear and Loathing in The Millennial Twilight: The 90s Wave ...Strange memories on this nervous night on the Internet. Has it really been twenty-five years? It feels more like five lifetimes, or at least two Main Eras—the kind of peak that never comes again. America in the mid-to-late nineties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run...but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant.... History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of “history” it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole century comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time—and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened. My central memory of those times seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty TV shows—or very early Saturday morning cartoons—when I could leave middle or high school half-crazy and, instead of doing homework, have the nose of our big Bluebird school bus aimed towards the Epps Bridge parkway, eventually doing 45 miles an hour over the residential speed humps of Westwood Hills, wearing jeans with knee-holes while toting my violin safely home, flipping the bird to adults in cars behind us...laughing as we tore through the Westchester duplexes and apartment complexes, not quite sure which of my friends might get home first, Nichole or David...but being absolutely certain that no matter which way we went, I would come to a place where people were just as high on life and wild as I was: No doubt at all about that.... There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across downtown Athens to DaVinci's restaurant, then up the Atlanta Highway to the Mall, or all the way down to the Jittery Joe's roaster....You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.... And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of hatred and racism. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our Hope would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave... So now, less than twenty-six years later, you can find a crowded post on Twitter and look Back, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back...

I miss Hunter, and I hear this in my mind every 9/11. I sure could use his take on the past 20 years of American politics.

Sunday Gunday? I'm down

Not a perfect Saturday night, but a nice and quiet one.

This was worth every penny! Do yourself a favor and go spend 5 bucks on the most entertaining rogue-like on Steam!

Reposting this because if you want to be able to dox and squeal on every traffic infraction and somehow make money off it, you deserve the public to know exactly where you live.

I hate that Tim Curry has passed away, but if I'm being honest, he was in rough shape for a long while. I hope, for his sake, it was quiet and painless, he was amazing in everything he did and deserved that and so much more. Everyone's been out singing his praises in the big screen roles and the smaller stage roles he had, but I want to take a moment or two to honor one my favorite cartoon roles he did for a little show called Mighty Max. Skullmaster, the main villain, was cruel and calculated and was memorable because of the gravitas Tim Curry gave to him. His design was intimidating, sure, but Curry brings him to life, and was a great standout from the rest of the 93-96 cartoon landscape. This show never got past being on TV and only a handful of VHS tapes were made for it. It definitely needs more love. (It looks like Studio Canal owns the rights to it currently, so I can only hope they choose to do something with the property at some point soon.)
