Today, PMMC was on Bloomberg expressing optimism that Canada and the US will reach a trade deal. Yesterday, we learned via the WSJ that the PM wants even closer ties with the EU- possibly as an 'associate member'. Should it not concern Canadians or our media, that we learn more from foreign media than our own? Where is the outrage from the Globe, Star, CBC, CTV etc. @acoyne @terrynewman

Cdn retaliatory tariffs will go in to effect Tues am, likely to be followed by US escalation making the trade war real and devastating for Cdns. That the PM will address the EU parliament before our own is egregious. Parliament needs to be recalled asap, discuss the key points that led to the stalemate, debate impact and next steps.

BC, and therefore Canada, conceded on tariff rate quotas on softwood lumber some time ago. The only issue was what would happen to the $10B in duties held in escrow. If it was an 11th hour revelation to Team Canada that Trump wouldn't return that, we are represented by amateurs.
USTR tells @AnaSwanson the US had said it would:
- eliminate 232 tariffs on softwood lumber entirely
- reduce 232s on Canadian autos to 15%
- lower the steel tariffs on the majority of Canadian steel exported to the US to 25% under a TRQ
- lower aluminum tariff to 25% without TRQ
With only 5 days to go until the 338 tariffs may come in to effect, it appears sides still far apart. Interesting that the only information that Canadians get on where things stand is via the the US Trade Rep.
Great to see the MLB races heating up, especially in the AL East. Whichever team emerges in October will have their hands full with the Dodgers who appear to have an infinite budget. Over to you NYY and BoSox

Attendees included a who’s who of top executives from Vancouver real estate players: Aquilini, Concord Pacific, Holborn, Intergulf, Larco, Mosaic, MST, Nch’kay, Onni, Pacific Reach, Peterson, Polygon, Pinnacle, Reliance, Strand, Sutton Group, Thind, Wall and Westbank
Also the industry’s lobby group, Urban Development Institute, and media-shy Whitecaps owner and real estate investor Greg Kerfoot.
Back in 2014, Rennie famously promoted a $25,000-a-plate luncheon for Robertson’s mayoral re-election campaign. Until 2017, B.C. had no limit on the size of political donations.

Lawful: This guy is the system. Central banking rules, international finance frameworks, climate regulations, ESG mandates, top-down government policy — he doesn't break rules, he writes them, enforces them, and expands them through institutions. Order, hierarchy, expertise, and "rules-based international order" are his religion.
Evil: From the critics' (and meme) perspective, he wields that lawful power in ways that serve elite/globalist interests over regular people — carbon taxes/regulations that hit working Canadians, financial controls, Davos-style deals, conflicts-of-interest whispers from his banking past. President Trump must know that after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America, over 40,000 brave Canadians fought tooth and nail in Afghanistan over 13 years. They did so on the frontlines in the most dangerous districts in the mountains of Tora Bora to the deserts of Kandahar. 158 of them paid the ultimate price. Thousands still suffer the scars.
We thank them. We honour them. We remember them. Our American friends should too.
