Having watched the new special I think I can confirm this opinion based on the trailer. I'd say Railway Stories may even be on par with the BWBA international episodes when you take into account their respective strengths and weaknesses.
It's interesting that they felt the need to give the show the subtitle "Railway Stories". I'm guessing it's to make the show more searchable?
It's definitely better than AEG. Probably better than S13-16 too. Can't imagine it's something I would watch too much of though. But I hope it does well nonetheless.

When you spend 45 mins on a Wonders of Sodor shunting challenge only to have to start again because you accidentally clipped a truck while moving through a set of points.
Wonders of Sodor is sooo close to being great it just needs some adjustments to camera controls and certain actions like uncoupling and switching points to make it less tedious.
