SEBI has made its decision on F&O expiry settlement.
From 7 December 2026, expiring futures and options will settle on the VWAP of the last 30 minutes of normal trading, not the closing auction price.
Here is what changes. ๐งต
One thing traders should note.
The closing price and the settlement price can now be different.
If a stock's 3:00 to 3:30 pm VWAP is โน1,000 and the auction closes at โน1,025, a โน1,010 call settles out of the money, even though the stock closed above โน1,010.
SEBI might change how F&O contracts settle on expiry day.
The idea being discussed is called a "blended pricing framework".

Where things stand:
SEBI says it received about 20,000 comments by the 3 October deadline. On 10 October, the SEBI chairman said guidelines should come in about a week.
A Mint report today says SEBI is likely to go with blended pricing. Some earlier reports pointed to Option 2.
