She hadn’t been out that evening; instead allowing herself a rest for once. Lounging on the bed, the only light in the room was the moonlight spilling through the curtains, and the phone screen illuminating her features as his texts come through. —

time. Considered the paperwork. Then reached for his jacket. 📲 Yeah. Just wrapping up at Central. What’s going on? He stopped and typed again. 📲 Everything alright, Hel?

She’s currently looking over two different supplements on the shop shelves. Her immune system is terrible.

He pulls her into his embrace; Helena allowing herself the moment for as long as she can before she pulls back to look at him. “If you need help with any of those ghosts you’re looking for, then I’m with you.”
“I missed you too.” Thomas said with another grin forming, the hand that was on her shoulder pulled her into him, a comforting gesture as he embraced her. “I’ve missed you a lot.”

“No. I just want the truth.” There truly isn’t a right answer. She wants to know if he came here for her or not. “.. I missed you. For what it’s worth.”
“Is there a right answer to this question?” He’d ask with a genuine curiosity. “You were apart of it, yes.”

“I don’t need to talk.” She swallows down any emotion in her gaze as she looks back at him. “What ghosts were you here for? Me?”
Unsure of what to do next, he’d move forward, placing a firm yet friendly hand upon her shoulder. “You can talk if you need. I won’t judge. Shit, I have no room to judge.”

“All the time.” She looks back at him, her gaze full of emotion that can be seen even behind her domino. She’s holding everything in, but the emotion is there behind her frowning brow.
“We haven’t exactly had the best encounters with one another recently.” Even he understands that it’s typically his fault and never hers. “Do you ever want to leave here and never come back?”

“Why would I want you to leave me alone?” She asks; before he’s asking what’s new with her. That makes her divert his gaze from his own. “Same old same old here.”
“Do you truly mean it? Or are you just saying that so I shut up and leave you alone?” Leaning against the nearest wall, his arms found themselves crossed over one another. “And you? What’s new?”

Is it?
Her definition of trouble is much different from his.

Does she believe him? She isn’t sure. She herself had returned to her lethal ways, returned to being the outsider among the capes because of what she does. Not that she believes she’s in the wrong for doing so. “That’s good, Thomas.”
“Trying to leave the criminal life behind, believe it or not.” Slight shrug.

Her brow furrows a touch, Helena doing her best to ignore his smile. “Different. How so?”
He remains quiet for a moment. Debating on whether to tell the truth. But just like him, she’s all he has at the time. So, he replies with a soft smile. “The new path I’m trying out. I’m not the same man you knew before. I’m.. different.”

Well, she does like to cause trouble.
Course not. It’s been . . . dull without her.

If he doesn’t mind.
He’s going over client notes with Foggy for the time being but is free after if she needs some company.

Helena eyes him; it’s been a long time. She isn’t sure whether to trust him or his answer, but for now, it’s all she’s got. “.. it’s been a while. Why chase Gotham’s ghosts now?”
“Chasing ghosts. Nothing new.”

She’s tried both already, unfortunately. Just something she’ll have to deal with.
Herbal tea and ice does the trick for him. Usually.
