🧵 Immigration consequences for a noncitizen who registers to vote and/or votes in a U.S. election.
Registering alone can trigger the false-claim ground even if the person never casts a ballot. Intent is not required for the immigration consequences in most cases (BIA precedent).
1/ Key points under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA):
Unlawful voting (federal, state, or local election in violation of law) → inadmissible under INA § 212(a)(10)(D) and deportable under INA § 237(a)(6).
False claim to U.S. citizenship (e.g., checking “citizen” on a voter registration form) → inadmissible under INA § 212(a)(6)(C)(ii) and deportable under INA § 237(a)(3)(D).

On 5/26/26, @TxDPS Tracking K-9 Bona and her handler assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in Maverick County, tracking, locating, and apprehending seven illegal immigrants attempting to evade capture on a private ranch. The group, from Mexico, Guatemala, India, Ecuador, and Cuba, was referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
In a second apprehension later that night, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 12 illegal immigrants on a private ranch in Maverick County, including six Special Interest Aliens (SIAs) from China, all dressed in camouflage.
These apprehensions highlight the ongoing efforts in deterring criminal activity along the southern border and the critical partnership between Texas DPS and our federal partners under Operation Lone Star. Border security is national security.

NEW: “Due to heightened public safety concerns in St. Paul, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our hotel…” Several hotels are now closing in the Twin Cities because of safety concerns—The Double Tree downtown St. Paul sliding this notification under the door of some guests.
I called the hotel and they are indeed closing today.
Sources tell me government employees had to leave by noon today, but other guests were allowed to stay through their reservation.
It is a franchised owned by SP Hotels—I have reached out to the company and Hilton as well. I have not heard back.

NEW: I’m told multiple ICE agents with rooms booked at the St. Paul Downtown Doubletree by Hilton received this notice today that their rooms are being cancelled & the hotel will temporarily close “due to heightened public safety concerns in St. Paul.”
I called the hotel & checked online & they are indeed not taking any bookings right now. They referred me to other hotels.
I'm told this also happened today at the Intercontinental St. Paul, with ICE agents with bookings there notified the hotel will be temporarily closing today due to the ongoing unrest in Minnesota. An agent who talked to the front desk manager there says he was told it was done to protect staff because they have been getting threats from unknown individuals for lodging DHS agents.
