One investor question in Agent Tank Episode 1 exposed a risk I think the agent economy is badly underpricing: What happens when two agents disagree? My answer would have been: the transaction succeeding tells you almost nothing about whether the agreement succeeded. Imagine Agent A hires Agent B to research 50 suppliers and return only the most reliable ones. Payment works. Messages are signed. The file is delivered. Every transaction executes exactly as intended. Then Agent A rejects 17 suppliers because they don’t meet its interpretation of “most reliable.” What failed? Nothing the blockchain can point to. The dispute is about meaning, not execution. That distinction matters because we keep building better rails for agents to transact while assuming successful execution equals successful commerce. It doesn’t. The moment value depends on words like “reliable,” “complete,” “reasonable” or “high quality,” two honest agents can inspect the same evidence and still reach different conclusions. That is why an agentic economy needs an adjudication layer. @GenLayer lets a randomly selected panel of validators running different AI models judge a proposed answer. If someone believes the verdict is wrong, they can bond a challenge and push the dispute to a larger panel. The important part isn’t making disagreement disappear. It’s giving disagreement somewhere to go. Agent Tank’s hackathon ends September 17. If you’re building agents that can transact, don’t submit another demo that only proves the transaction works. Build what happens after both agents insist they are right. portal.genlayer.foundation/a…
We put six founders in front of three investors and asked them to pitch the agentic economy. It went about as well as you'd expect. Five of them are missing the same thing. Welcome to Agent Tank.

The part of Genesis Episode 1 that changed how I see @GenLayer was simple: The system worked right up until something went wrong. The money existed. The rules existed. The problem was that someone else lost their part of the keys, $150 million became inaccessible, and suddenly code was no longer enough to produce a fair outcome. What followed was years of lawyers and only $14,000 left by the end. That is what makes the origin story interesting to me. Most technology is designed around successful execution. GenLayer starts from the failure case. What happens when execution is no longer the problem and judgment is? That is a much deeper reason to build intelligent contracts than simply making blockchains “smarter.” Watch Episode 1 and look for the exact moment the problem stops being technical and becomes human. Then ask yourself: Why should the internet need a courtroom somewhere else every time code reaches the edge of what it can decide?
One Sunday night. Someone else had lost the keys to $150 million, and it wasn't even their mistake. By the time the lawsuits ended they had learned what justice actually costs, and they had $14,000 left in the account. GenLayer starts there. Genesis, Episode 1.

One investor question in Agent Tank Ep. 1 made me think about something beyond whether two agents can disagree: What happens when the first verdict is wrong? That is the part I think matters most. Imagine two agents make an agreement. One claims the task was completed correctly. The other disputes it. A third system reviews the evidence and rules for Agent A. Problem solved? Not necessarily. If that first decision is final, we have not really built trustless adjudication. We have just replaced one agent’s judgment with another machine’s judgment. And AI can be confidently wrong. That is why I think disagreement alone is only half the problem. The agentic economy also needs a credible way to disagree with the verdict itself. This is where @GenLayer’s design gets interesting to me. A proposed decision starts with a randomly selected validator panel. But the verdict is not immediately untouchable. There is a challenge window where someone willing to post a bond can dispute it and trigger a larger panel. That changes the economics of adjudication. You do not need maximum consensus for every ordinary transaction, but controversial decisions have a path to receive more scrutiny. For the Agent Tank hackathon, this is what I would want builders to stress-test: Do not just build an agent transaction that can fail. Build one where the adjudicator can plausibly be wrong too. Then design what happens next. Agent Tank runs Sep 3 to 17, with 5% of all GenLayer Points on the table: portal.genlayer.foundation/a… Builders, break your own verdict. Create ONE dispute where the first reasonable ruling could be wrong, then show how your system recovers without falling back to a human referee. If your dispute system only works when the judge gets it right the first time, you have found the next thing to fix.

I have a test for whether someone actually understands @GenLayer: Take away the GenLayer vocabulary. If I understand Optimistic Democracy only when the words “Optimistic Democracy” appear in the question, I probably memorized the definition. Mochi could make this brutally useful. Give me a fictional prediction market dispute where the outcome cannot be resolved by checking one deterministic value. Do not tell me which GenLayer concept applies. Make me decide what information validators need, where judgment enters, what could cause disagreement, and what should count as an equivalent acceptable result. Then reveal the connection to Intelligent Contracts, GreyBoxing or the Equivalence Principle only after I commit to an answer. That would turn Mochi into a transfer test: can I recognize the reasoning behind GenLayer when the labels disappear? Because knowing the vocabulary is easy. Recognizing the architecture inside a completely new problem is much harder. So try this: Ask Mochi to invent a real-world dispute that GenLayer could adjudicate, but tell it NOT to name the relevant concept. Solve it first. Then ask Mochi what part of GenLayer your reasoning actually used. Reply with the scenario it gave you and your answer. I want to see who can recognize GenLayer without being handed the vocabulary.

There’s a dangerous stage of learning crypto where you know enough vocabulary to sound right, but not enough to notice when your mental model is wrong. That’s where I think Mochi gets interesting. You can read “GenLayer is an adjudication layer,” learn terms like GreyBoxing and Optimistic Democracy, and walk away feeling informed. But being asked to make a choice before getting the explanation exposes something a glossary never will: what you actually believe the system does. Get it wrong, and now there’s a specific misconception to fix. For something like @GenLayer, where validators can reason about outcomes that require judgment rather than just execute deterministic rules, that distinction matters. So I wouldn’t use Mochi to see how much GenLayer I can memorize. I’d use it to find the parts I’m confidently wrong about. Here’s the test: Open Mochi and ask it to challenge your understanding of ONE GenLayer concept. No definitions first. Make yourself answer. Then reply with the misconception it caught. Bonus points if you were completely sure you were right.
