ALT Detroit College Access Network's Statement Regarding the Michigan state university shooting: As an organization committed to promoting higher education in Detroit and making a college degree or credential a reality for students in Detroit, we are horrified by the reality that yet another mass shooting has occurred. We are heartbroken by the senseless violence that has taken three MSU students' lives and left five others in critical condition. We send our condolences to not only their families but also the many students, faculty, and families that have endured the traumatic cycle of violence. DCAN joins individuals and organizations around the country and throughout our state in pleading for change. Every student deserves a safe space to learn and grow with a focus on their education, where they do not have to worry about whether they will make it back home to their families.
