About 1.5k into today’s row I hit a big powerboat wake which filled the inside of my racing shell about 1/3, soaked the back of my shorts and 1/4 way up my shirt, and each stroke the next 8.5k my feet were being splashed from the water moving back and forth. Air temp 49 degrees

Water conditions on the river were not hospitable for the single this morning - 12mph winds gusting to 22mph. Stayed in our canal and did lots of 90 and 180 degree turns.

It’s that time of the year when the mornings are getting cooler (50s) and sun rising later (after 7) which means an extra layer of clothes and time to charge up the @RowKraft bow/stern lights because we are at the outer cusp of how late I can go out and get to work on time

Enjoyed going to the @DBCC1839 dedication of their new Shellhouse. They still need racks for the boats (it is empty), and I was surprised there was no indoor plumbing/bathrooms either. Perhaps a big donor could step up, like rowers @cameron @tyler who have some capital

With the recent hiring of Tyler Nase as head coach of @PennWRowing now all three coaches at @Penn rowed at Philly high schools. Monte at Roman Catholic HS, Farrell at St Joe’s Prep, and Nase at LaSalle Prep.

Rowing thread - thoughts on the @USRowing Summer championship regatta, now called RowFest. This is a combination of the old Club Nationals and Masters Nationals. But entries are down since the last few years. Why? ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

In 2024 @usrowing combined the Summer Club Nationals (mid-July) and Masters Nationals (mid-August) into one event, RowFest, over two consecutive weekends at the same venue. For logistics to put on 1 long major regatta rather than 2 makes sense. But… 1/

The last split Masters and Club Nats @usrowing entries in 2023, and last year’s combined #RowFest entries are comparably size (2658 to 2589) but why the big drop this year to 2217? 14/

Here are raw numbers to compare and contrast, gleaned from Regatta Central. So should RowFest continue as a combined regatta? Is the location wrong? (I like it near Detroit). Many East Coast clubs not registered this year who did last year. Or is smaller regattas new reality?
