America’s investment in the new consulate provides a secure platform to advance the interests of the United States and demonstrates the value that a sovereign, secure, and prosperous Iraq can deliver for its own people and for America.

Together with Deputy Secretary of State Rigas, U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Mustafa Garg, and U.S. Embassy Libya Chargé d’affaires Bernt, I met with Foreign Minister Abdelatty and senior Egyptian officials as part of the U.S.–Egypt Strategic Dialogue on Africa to advance our shared goals for peace, security, and prosperity across the continent. We focused on supporting Libya’s stabilization through unified institutions, expanding humanitarian access and advancing efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan, and strengthening counterterrorism coordination and border security to address regional migration challenges. The United States also reaffirmed support for a diplomatic solution on the Nile River that meets the needs of all nations, including in times of drought. Our partnership with Egypt underscores our joint resolve to promote stability and opportunity across Africa.
