I'm glad a reporter asked her about this. It seems obvious that Letitia James has already prejudged this case and should not serve as special prosecutor... and also that Kathy Hochul doesn't know what she's talking about... We should be very concerned about diminishing prospects for basic fairness here...
Reporter: "Attorney General, on your Facebook page three days ago, you wrote, ‘What this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable. I'm holding her in my heart and in my prayers. To her and to all survivors, you're not alone. We stand with you.’ Why did you affirm her allegations as fact without doing your own fact-finding investigation? And to the governor, why did you appoint an official who made a public statement affirming those allegations as fact as someone who's supposed to be doing an investigation?” New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D): “I will answer that. I have every confidence in our Attorney General to do what she has always done. Look at the facts, examine the record, and draw the proper conclusions. That's exactly what's going to happen in this case. Attorney General, please.” New York Attorney General Letitia James: “I will not comment on a Facebook post.” Great question!

Cornell University 2024 Rape Case When I first read the headlines about this case, like most people, I was appalled. Seven men raped a woman for seven hours, and no one was prosecuted? Then I read Jane Doe’s statement, included in attorney Andrew Fleischman’s analysis, and I understood why prosecutors declined to bring charges. Based on that statement, I don’t see how they could have proven rape beyond a reasonable doubt. I want to be clear, I think the actions of these men were reprehensible. Doe obviously liked Male 1 and agreed to a threesome. But to then degrade her and invite other men into the room without her prior consent is unconscionable. The Snapchat messages allegedly telling others they could have sex with her for “free” only make their behavior more repulsive. But reprehensible behavior and criminal rape are not necessarily the same thing. Doe alleges she was pressured into taking ketamine and smoking marijuana while already intoxicated and was then raped by seven men over approximately seven hours before blacking out. Her statement, however, describes a much more complicated sequence. She describes voluntarily participating in sexual activity with multiple men. She cared for Male 2 when he thought he might vomit. She opened the door and let Male 3 into the room herself. When four more men entered, she hid under the covers, which certainly suggests discomfort, but she doesn't describe telling them to leave. She participated in taking ketamine with the group and later allowed them to snort ketamine from her body. Most importantly from a legal standpoint, her statement describes her setting boundaries and those boundaries being respected. When Male 1 proposed a foursome involving anl sex, she said no. It didn't happen. Later, she went with Male 1 and Male 4 to another room, did more ketamine and participated in another threesome. Around 5:45 a.m., she said she was tired and wanted to stop. They stopped. She went to sleep. Fleischman's analysis was that those facts did not establish first, second, or third-degree rape. New York law addresses forcible compulsion, clearly expressed lack of consent, and circumstances in which someone is legally incapable of consenting because of mental incapacitation or physical helplessness. But prosecutors still have to connect those circumstances to the specific sexual conduct occurring at that time. Being heavily intoxicated during the night doesn't automatically establish that every sexual encounter during that night occurred without legally valid consent. And that's where I think the criminal case becomes extremely difficult. Could there have been coercion? Absolutely. Every time she pulled back, more drugs appear to have entered the picture. There are memory gaps. Her intoxication became severe. Those are significant facts. But her statement also describes someone who could communicate, make choices, participate, refuse particular acts and ultimately end the encounter. One statement obviously doesn't tell us everything that happened that night. Other evidence, toxicology, witness accounts or omitted portions of her statement could change the picture. Would Doe have participated in multiple threesomes sober? Maybe not. Looking back sober at something you did while severely intoxicated could be horrifying, especially if it was completely outside your normal behavior. But that's different from proving rape beyond a reasonable doubt. Based solely on the statement Fleischman analyzed, I understand why prosecutors concluded they didn't have a criminal rape case they could prove.
So let's talk about the degrees of rape in New York, what is required for each, and why Jane Doe's statements to police make this an unappealing prosecution. And to get ahead of this: things can be both hard to prosecute under existing law and morally wrong. /1

I find it strange that DA Van Houten released a statement including parts of Jane Doe’s original statement. Why not just release all 6 pages of her statement regarding the Cornell incident?? & now I'm even more curious who got expelled if this is what the original statement was. 🤔

Trump’s Iran war is breaking the global economy
🚨 The Bond Market Just Broke: Japan Dumps $26 Billion in Treasuries While America Is Buying Back Its Own Bonds Today, the US Treasury admitted the long end of the bond market is broken. Nobody wanted the 10-year, 20-year, or 30-year debt. The 30-year yield just slammed into its highest level since 2007 (peaking near 5.33%). So what did they do? They announced they’re AT LEAST DOUBLING their liquidity buybacks of those exact long-term bonds, from a $2 billion max per operation to $4 billion+ starting September 9. They’re literally borrowing short-term money to buy back their own long-term debt. Classic desperation move. Bond prices spiked, yields crashed 9-10 bps, and futures ripped higher the second the news dropped. Meanwhile Japan, still the #1 foreign holder of US Treasuries is dumping them to fund currency interventions. The BoJ and finance minister threatened of bold actions to save the yen. BoJ’s Yuto apologized for the measures being prepared. June data just showed Japan cut holdings by another $26.4 billion (down to $1.117 trillion). That follows the massive joint US-Japan yen-buying intervention in late July that burned tens of billions of dollars trying to stop the yen from hitting 40-year lows near 164. The yen has already given back more than half those gains and is back above 159. When the biggest foreign buyer is selling Treasuries to defend its own currency… and the US government is forced to step in and buy its own unwanted long bonds… this isn’t “market support.” This is the system flashing red. The famous City Of London banker @LordBelgrave had already warned about the planned debt, oil + currency financial crisis at the start of the year. It is now being executed. Yields are the gravity of everything, your mortgage, stocks, crypto, gold. The can just got kicked harder and farther. Don’t look away.

A new poll finds 40% of respondents believe in a baseless conspiracy theory that the coronavirus was created in a lab in China. There is zero evidence for this. Scientists say the virus was transmitted to humans from another species. trib.al/m0pJe4b

One of the main guilty acts of Fauci is not the claim that he got the COVID origin wrong at first. It's that he and his Lancet crew fabricated a certainty about COVID's origins they plainly did not possess -- due to entirely self-interested reasons (namely, their careers and reputations would be endangered if COVID had been caused by gain-of-function and other Wuhan research they funded and participated it). They then weaponized that fake, deceitful certainty to label anyone who suggested a lab leak as a racist (which never made sense, since the "wet market" theory was always the more racist one), and then also used that non-existent certainty to bully and coerce media outlets and Big Tech to aggressively censor anyone questioning or dissenting from their proclamation. The complete shutdown of debate, discussion and dissent over some of the this century's most consequential policies was one of the main crimes. That they did this not out of good faith error but crass self-advancement and self-protection made it all the worse.
Sorry but there is no real defense of Fauci. I was someone who gave him a leeway early on, but it has been clear for years that he repeatedly and intentionally misled the public at a time where maintaining the credibility of health officials was critical. One example here:

This is key. Whether we know for certain whether the lab was Covid’s origin, it is 100% the case that an active cover up was and is underway by people who funded the lab, did work there, and were concerned the lab was the source. Of that there is zero doubt, and it’s criminal behavior of the highest sort, given the stakes.
However, we learned there is incontrovertible proof of a conspiracy to cover up and deny the possibility it may well be a lab mishap, orchestrated from the highest levels of the scientific establishment and a self-serving group of scientists who deliberately misled the public.
