New details emerge in fatal police shooting at a Fremont senior facility Additional information has come to light regarding a deadly police encounter that took place last month at an assisted living complex in Fremont, California. Background of the incident:First responders rushed to the Aegis facility on Walnut Avenue near Fremont Boulevard on July 24 following emergency calls about an armed individual. Investigators stated that 62-year-old Edward Oliver Jr. was holding his mother, a resident at the home, along with his two sisters, hostage. Police reported he was armed when officers arrived, and within minutes of their presence at the scene, officers opened fire and killed him. The ongoing investigation:The California Department of Justice has stepped in to probe the shooting and assess whether the officers' use of force was lawful. The intervention by the Attorney General's office suggests the possibility that Oliver may not have been carrying a weapon at the exact moment he was shot.
