Thread - In middle of climate emergency and #BCFlood, we see stark reality of state 'organized abandonment and organized violence' (h/t Ruthie Gilmore) : 1) Sikh gurudwaras around the province are leading relief efforts, while govt can't even figure out a text alert system.

As snow piles up on sidewalks, making the city even less accessible – for people with disabilities, pedestrians, seniors, cyclists – remember that this is a political decision by politicians who dump millions more into policing while failing to fund snowclearing in a winter city.

Canada has failed time & again to respect human rights of Indigenous peoples which includes governance over our territories & right to say no to pipelines & man camps. @Gidimten #MMIWG #HumanRights vancouversun.com/news/local-…

We live in a world where @Fordnation can blatantly lie about police budgets “always being chopped” and our media outlets will just quote him verbatim without doing a simple fact check. FACT: The Toronto Police Service budget has increased 19.4% since 2013.

The Defund 604 Network condemns the continued invasion of Indigenous territory, where extractive industries are fortified by militarized police forces and mercenaries working as private security guards. Solidarity with @Gidimten !!!

The WPS shot + killed three Indigenous people in the span of 10 days in April 2020: Eishia Hudson, Jason Collins and Stewart Andrews. It exists to kill, injure, incarcerate Indigenous peoples. The only path to "reconciliation" the WPS can take its own abolition. #AbolishTheWPS

Remember that litigation @JustinTrudeau said wasn't happening? Well First Nations kids just won - again! Canada must stop fighting First Nations kids in foster care in court & stop racial discrimination once & for all. Thanks @cblackst @SpiritBear #Indigenous #TRC
Brett Forester@BrettForester29 Sep 2021
#Breaking: The Federal Court has upheld a 2019 Canadian Human Rights Tribunal order requiring Ottawa to pay potentially billions of dollars to First Nations kids and families who suffered racial discrimination by the state. Canada's two appeals have been dismissed.

Leaders stumble on Indigenous reconciliation at debates - none of them shared a concrete plan to end genocide against Indigenous peoples. My latest for @CTVNews #mmiwg #genocide #election2021 #cdnpoli ctvnews.ca/mobile/politics/f…

A reminder that Indigenous children make up 52% of all the kids in foster care in Canada at the same time that 42% of all women in federal prison are also Indigenous. We have never stopped family separation & genocide here in Canada – at Toronto, Ontario

people are so angry that police are allowing demonstrations outside hospitals when we say cops are harmful and we must abolish them, people think we're going too far the alternative is to pay the cops to do whatever they want, and watch in helpless frustration

Speaking about reconciliation now for the federal debate. Have not heard a mention about how they will hold the government and churches accountable to release documents about children that may have died at residential school.

A non-Indigenous man is the interim exec director of MMIWG Secretariat and the Liberals have yet to fully implement any of the 231 Calls for Justice, 2 years after the National Inquiry ended. Voters should be outraged. Opinion: The Globe and Mail theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

Opinion: The Canadian government seems to have missed the entire point of the MMIWG inquiry

The appointment of a non-Indigenous man as the executive director of the MMIWG Secretariat is deeply tone-deaf

Earlier this evening my husband took our 8 month old out for a walk. A police car from the 12th division of @TorontoPolice followed them for several minutes until my husband stopped and stared back. They drove off.

Dear Canada. It’s really simple. Does your candidate believe in genocide here or not? We can not have reconciliation without truth. We can not skirt genocide anymore.
