Courage looks different for everyone. 🇰🇪✊🏽
We asked our artists, “What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?” and their answers remind us that being a shujaa is about daring to take a stand, speak up, and do what you believe in.
This Mashujaa Day, we celebrate the courage in all of us.

We took to the streets to ask Kenyans what Mashujaa Day means to them and who they consider their heroes. Because being a Shujaa isn’t just about the heroes in our history books; it’s also about the everyday people, human rights defenders who stand up for justice, protect our communities, and inspire change. ✊🏽

Our legit heroes live in history, memory, the raw beats, the urgent spoken word, the canvases splashed with truth, and the voices that refuse to quiet down. Art is how we hold onto what matters. It keeps the fire alive when the noise tries to drown it out.
This Mashujaa Day, we gather at Alliance Française for the Mashujaa Love Fest (Sanaa na Haki) from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
We show up our heroes and defenders. Because history lives in us, and the work continues.
Hatujasahau. We remember.
Entry is free. Bring your people.
