Possession of a Bladed Article – Crown Court.
The defence raised substantive issues and there were clear question marks over whether prosecution of this particular matter was in the public interest.
After two years of litigation and more than 14 hours of work, the prosecution offered no evidence on the day of trial.
Criminal legal aid fee: £272.55 (it would have been only £411.31 had the case proceeded to a one-day trial).
A good outcome for the defendant. Extremely poor remuneration – whether the case reaches trial or not – for the professionals who prepare these matters.
The Government now proposes to remove defendants’ right to elect Crown Court trial in cases of this kind. Instead they would face summary trial in the Magistrates’ Court, where the conviction rate is substantially higher.
Whichever way you look at it, justice in England & Wales continues to erode.
I went to Isleworth yesterday for a hearing in courtroom 14. Nobody told me that there is no court 14 & that means we're supposed to join by videolink. Is there a central list of courts doing this or are lawyers supposed to just know?

The guy posting this is worried about the additives, fair enough. Personally, I don't think shops should be allowed to add all the water to bump up weight & price without a big sticker on the front saying something like "X% of this product is injected water".
Bought this chicken from Morrisons yesterday for me and the kids dinner last night, went to cook it to notice it was only 90% chicken 🥴.Watch what youre putting in your body people, because you think it’s healthy doesn’t necessarily mean it is. Right in the bin with it last night.

This product is sold as containing 90% chicken by weight along with added water and seasonings for the roast-in-the-bag method, as stated on the packaging and ingredients list.

Can anyone with a better grasp on terror laws than me weigh in and tell me whether she is in fact legally banned from selling her books here or if this is a publicity stunt? Feels like the latter given her books remain on sale in shops and haven't been recalled by publisher.
Sally Rooney's books withdrawn from UK sale over her support for Palestine Action; this seems to be a basic infringement of freedom of speech/artistic freedom?!?

Interesting that a lot of "patriot" Reform supporting accounts are super keen on a guy who is literally calling for the murder of the King while accusing the King of all people of being a traitor. Apparently it's what they're all saying down the pub!
Warning: Distressing and graphic language
A Reform councillor from South London has been recorded calling for King Charles to be decapitated because he “is a Muslim”, while another senior Reform councillor from Solihull said of Asian people: “drag out of their homes, stick them on planes and **** them off to Pakistan.”
It’s part of an undercover investigation by ITV Exposure into Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.
Councillor Dean Miller told us he was heavily medicated at the time due to a chronic pain condition and has since resigned from Reform.
Councillor Raymond Dunning did not respond to our request for comment.
In a statement shared with ITV News, Reform UK said "Where members, activists and councillors have clearly behaved inappropriately, investigations have commenced. In some cases, there have been suspensions and due process must be followed."
"Reform UK has improved and prioritised its vetting procedures, but from time to time, a handful of individuals who do not share our values will initially make it through vetting. This is the same for all organisations."

I'm a paramedic. We need a new emergency service specifically for dealing with mental heath issues. While paramedics like me have basic mental health training, we are still not in the best position to help these people. We try our best but we have too little resources and staff.
I really need to see the receipts on this one. I am really struggling to believe anyone got a Motability car for tennis elbow let alone 40 people. The 320 dyslexia claims sound extremely unlikely too.
This @WSJ piece on the UK's runaway disability benefits is something else. Great color from @MaximColch & @davidluhnow

Yeah it's quite disastrous.
The risk is high and it'll ruin your actual job.
And, on top of that, frankly, team treat them like shit.
NPT and Investigations not so bad, but most don't even realise they can work on those.
More would probably help there if they did.
