The US government approved a potential $24.3 billion sale of 48 F-35A Lightning II fighter jets to Saudi Arabia on 17 September 2026. The 30-day congressional review period expired on 17 October without a vote to block the proposed sale. However, a resolution seeking to disapprove the deal remains pending in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. With the review period concluded, the process can move towards the issuance of the Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) to Saudi Arabia. Following its acceptance and signing, the programme is expected to proceed towards a contract with Lockheed Martin, the aircraft’s principal contractor.

MKE has reportedly commenced deliveries of its AZAK E5 warhead, developed for integration with multiple platforms, including Baykar’s K2 kamikaze UAV. While MKE has yet to disclose the warhead’s technical specifications, its estimated weight is around 200 kg based on the K2’s maximum payload capacity. Combined with the K2’s reported range of more than 2,000 km, the AZAK E5 could provide a cost-effective option for long-range strike missions. Its cylindrical configuration may also facilitate integration with other compatible munitions and platforms, although further technical details and integration capabilities remain unconfirmed.

Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban on Indian Aircraft Until November 24. Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft for another month, keeping the ban in force until November 24, 2026, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA). The restriction applies to Indian-registered aircraft, as well as aircraft owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines and operators, including military flights. The latest extension took effect at 7:45 p.m. Pakistan time on October 17 and will remain in force until 4:59 a.m. on November 24, 2026. The notice applies to both the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions. Pakistan initially imposed the restrictions in April 2025 amid escalating tensions with India. The continued closure has forced Indian airlines to use alternative routes for certain international flights, increasing travel times and operating costs. The previous extension was due to expire on October 24, 2026.
