The renewed agreement marks a major shift after negotiations collapsed earlier this year. In April, the UAE withdrew after France refused to share sensitive technologies, particularly advanced optronics. Abu Dhabi had been ready to contribute up to €3.5 billion to the €5 billion programme, exposing tensions in one of France’s key defence partnerships.

The crash occurred on 21 October near Chernyakhovsk in Russia’s #Kaliningrad Oblast. The Su-30 multirole fighter belonged to the Russian Navy’s 4th Naval Aviation Regiment and was conducting a scheduled training flight. Footage circulating online shows a violent explosion upon impact.
