We don’t always know what somebody else is carrying. The joy and the struggle can be there at the same time. I’ve learned to find gratitude in the middle of it, and for the people who meet me there ♥️

When Tony Elliott was four years old a truck hit him. Broken ribs, a punctured lung, a torn spleen.
When he was nine, his family was driving to church outside Anaheim, California, and a car ran a red light.
His mother Patricia did not survive that morning. Tony was not wearing a seat belt and he walked away without a scratch.
Here is what he has said about it.
"When you lose your mother on the way to church when you are nine years old, you don't understand."
His parents had separated when he was five. His father went to prison. He got out, and about a month later he was locked up again.
Tony and his sister Brandi went to an aunt and uncle in Atlanta who could not afford to keep both of them. So the two of them were split up.
He ended up in Charleston, South Carolina, with his Aunt Blondale, who raised him alongside her own two sons. He got his sister back before his senior year of high school.
He played at James Island High School. He had a few small school offers and an appointment to the Air Force Academy.
He spent a year at the Academy prep school and left. He has said he went for the wrong reasons.
So he bagged groceries at Publix. He worked construction for 8 dollars an hour, twelve hour shifts.
Then he applied to three colleges. Georgia, South Carolina and Clemson.
Clemson took him with no conditions.
He walked on to the football team. As a freshman he broke his arm against Georgia Tech and missed five games.
He earned a scholarship anyway. He graduated with an industrial engineering degree and a 3.55. He became a captain of the Clemson Tigers. As a senior he caught 23 passes.
Then he went and got a real job as an engineer at Michelin.
And he quit it. He volunteered at a high school, then went and coached receivers at South Carolina State, then at Furman.
Then Dabo Swinney called him about the Clemson running backs job.
Years before that, at a coaching clinic, Elliott had driven Swinney out to the intersection in Anaheim where his mother was lost. That intersection is on Sycamore Street.
Swinney had him over to the house for homemade chili and offered him the job right there.
Swinney's house is on Sycamore Street.
He coached at Clemson for a decade. Two national championships. In 2017 they handed him the Broyles Award, which goes to the best assistant coach in the country.
Then Virginia hired him. In his first three seasons the Virginia Cavaliers won 11 games total.
Last season they won 11 in a single year. The most in the history of the school, and the first double digit season there since 1989. They made him the ACC Coach of the Year.
Virginia is 3 and 2 right now and just got beat 38 to 7 at Florida State. Nothing is fixed and nobody is pretending it is.
But tonight is the 101st Homecoming game at Scott Stadium, against Syracuse.
And the man standing on that sideline used to bag groceries for a living.

Pastor Jonathan gave the message at Grace Family Church this morning. He spoke about prayer. How do we pray correctly?
In Matthew 6 Jesus said don’t pray to be heard by men.
We need to pray TO God and pray FROM our heart.
We need to understand we’re praying to a GOOD God-the only truly good entity in the world.
When we know that—and pray that way—we will receive God’s goodness and His provisions.
Prayer to God is different than talking to people. God will always respond with what is best for us!🙏🏽

Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad tell Michelle Obama they were JEALOUS of each other’s beauty growing up, and connect it to the COLORISM and constant messages about SKIN TONE they heard as kids 😲👀
“We grew up with that foolishness, that colorism foolishness, because, you know, that brown paper bag foolishness. And I remember one time Phylicia loved chocolate milk, and we were drinking chocolate milk, and my uncle said to her, ‘Girl, you better drink all the WHITE MILK you can.’”

Here’s an NFL Films video on Brady’s Psychologist at Michigan Greg Harden
Tom Brady says his career turned around when a sports psychologist told him to stop complaining about what he wasn’t getting and start stewarding what he had the right way
“Greg said to me, ‘Why don’t you quit bitching about all the things you’re not getting, and how about you do the best with whatever opportunities you get?’, ‘Stop worrying about what the other quarterback’s getting. Stop worrying about what the coach is saying to you.’”
“‘Every time you get in there, you bring the juice. You bring the energy. You bring the enthusiasm. You treat practice like a game.’ Because if you just decide to go out there and you’re blaming everybody else, where does that get you? So I started to change my attitude.”
“I didn’t have a lot of confidence in myself. And when you don’t have a lot of confidence in yourself, you blame other people. When you gain confidence in yourself, you start pointing the finger at yourself.”
“I would encourage every athlete to look in the mirror after every day of practice or a game and say, ‘What can I do better to help the team? What can I do better?’”
“Not, ‘What does the coach need to do better?’ Not, ‘What do my teammates need to do better?’, ‘What do I need to do better?’ If every player does that, you’re going to have an incredible team.”
“You can’t have a false confidence. You don’t only gain your confidence because of your physical ability. You gain your confidence because you’re prepared, because you’re competitive. I couldn’t just show up and be better than everybody.”
“I had to show up prepared. I had to show up with energy. I had to show up with my body feeling right. I had to show up like I was on a mission.”

Loved by everybody is not the same thing as agreed with by everybody.
Dolly knew the difference. I’m not sure the rest of us do anymore.
So I went to the mural in East Nashville last night. Somebody had already left flowers. Somebody had already lit a candle in a jar.
I stood there a long time trying to figure out how one woman got a country this angry to agree on her.
I think I know now.
I explain it in the video…
Her family asked for books instead of flowers. tr.ee/Vw6xCk18iw

Dolly Parton never wanted us fighting over whether she was red or blue. She wanted us to ALL be Americans.
And she showed us what she believed in:
- Kids should have books.
- People struggling deserve help.
- Everyone deserves dignity.
- Success means giving something back.
- And kindness doesn't require a party affiliation.
Maybe the best way to honor Dolly to build a country that looks a little more like the one she spent her life trying to create:
Kinder. More generous. Less judgmental. And looking out for one another.
That feels like a pretty damn good direction for tomorrow.
Rest in peace, Dolly ❤️

From King Center CEO, Dr. Bernice A. King: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton. Her extraordinary voice and songwriting entertained and brought joy to generations, and she used her influence beyond music to affirm human dignity, inclusion, and the importance of treating people with love and respect.
Through her commitment to literacy, she also opened doors of possibility for children around the world.
In 2023, I had the privilege of honoring Dolly on behalf of The King Center as our Christine King Farris “Legacy of Service in Education” honoree.
My prayers are with her family, loved ones, and all who were touched by her light.”
Jason Brown had what many athletes spend their entire lives chasing. In 2009, he signed a five-year, $37.5 million contract with the St. Louis Rams, becoming the highest-paid center in the NFL at the time.
But after just a few seasons, Brown made a decision that stunned the sports world.
At only 29 years old, while still young enough to continue earning millions on the field, he walked away from professional football and returned to his home state of North Carolina.
With no previous farming experience, Brown purchased a 1,000-acre property and founded First Fruits Farm.
He reportedly learned many of the basics of farming through research, videos, and hands-on work. Inspired by his Christian faith and the biblical principle of offering "first fruits," he and his family committed to giving away the first portion of every harvest to people in need.
What began as an unconventional career change has grown into a mission that has provided well over a million pounds of fresh produce to food banks, churches, and food pantries, helping feed countless families.
Jason Brown traded NFL stadiums for tractor fields, multimillion-dollar contracts for rows of sweet potatoes and vegetables, and personal wealth for a life centered on service.
His story remains a reminder that success isn't always measured by how much we keep, but sometimes by how much we're willing to give away.
