People claiming the fic drives are for community well then you could've made it an community effort instead of trampling over authors. You could've opened a drive for willing fic authors to put their works! Most of us don't write on the archive directly we do have copies!

all I want to say in this ao3 conversation right now is that I love fic writers, and you deserve so much more than fandoms have ever given you. Fanfics are so often the backbone of a healthy fandom and I think it's time we started acknowledging it.

Now as a writer, I know personally that I love the idea of people downloading my work because they loved it that much. That won't change. But, is it that insane that writers want to see their work appreciated? When you've downloaded a fic, have you left a comment?

Consumerism has gotten so far that even art gets less comments than usual, so what we've got left ARE the stats, and Fanfics barely even get that; u can only give kudos once, and to promote ur fic on twitter u need to jump through 10 hoops not to get supressed for sharing a link

ao3 discourse revealing that a lot of people don't understand the difference between downloading for personal use (non-distributing) and uploading to a shared drive without permission from the author (distributing)
