Ced 211 is a nebula around a variable star called R Aquarii. In my 14" it’s hardly to spot but using 25" under the pristine skies of 🇳🇦 it shows a variety of structures from an S-shaped nebula with brighter parts to knots outside. 25" at 670x.

#Astrosketch

NGC 3319 is truly hardly to spot but has an interesting shape so far. The outer rectangular structure at south contains several knots. At first view only the center strike is visible but with patience the entire appearance will change. 21" at 164x.

NGC 2467 is a young Open Cluster (OC) in Puppis embedded in a huge gas cloud which can be observed with relatively small telescopes. It’s actually a star forming region. The sketch below shows the view through a 25 inch Dobson.

IC 5052 is not a “Superthin” Galaxy but could be because of its needle like shape. It’s visible from the Southern Hemisphere only and shows knots within its thin body. 25” Dobson & 278x

NGC 1365 is a barred spiral galaxy most known because of its beautiful shape. It’s located in Fornax and could be observed best from southern latitudes. Besides the spiral arms the core is very interesting because it appears like a pearl necklace. 25” at 278x.

It's been a while, but here is a sketch I did on October 22, 2022 of M76, The Little Dumbbell Nebula in the constellation Perseus. Video of the sketch: youtu.be/s0TY7tV56tM

G2 is a faint GC of M31 but with a 20“ Dobson easy to spot. G2 appears actually starlike (marked) with no details. At West you can see G1. The drawing shows the view at 231x where both are visible at the same time.

M110 is a small companion of the huge galaxy M31 with its own world. The marked “star” actually is a globular cluster (GC) of M110 called G73. In a 16 inch Dobson it is relatively easy to spot. Lot’s more GCs of M31 could be observed as well.

What do the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn look like at the eyepiece of an amateur telescope? Here are two (pastels + pencils) sketches from last night using a 203mm/8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain and magnifications of between 150 & 230x. #astrosketching #sciart

compact globular cluster NGC 5286 in Centaurus. Accompanied by a bright orange star, showing small variations in brightness and a couple of smaller star chains. Sketched at the Rooisand Desert Farm, Namibia. #astrosketching

The so called “Pavo-Galaxy” is one of the highlights of the southern night sky. It’s tiny companion is NGC 6744A and can be found nearby. NGC 6744 is a typical barred spiral galaxy but even in a 25” Dobson details are not obvious as one may expect.

NGC 2444 & 5 is a pair of interacting galaxies known also as Arp 143. The sketch shows the view at 380x through my 21” Dobson. Several knots actually form a ring of 2445 while 2444 is seen above as elliptical galaxy with a bright core.
