A city-wide festival for those building the next generation of science & industry in the UK & beyond from October 5-11th

London
Joined July 2026
75 years ago, the Festival of Britain brought design, science, and technology to the public as a celebration of the country's future. In 2026, Britain needs another future-facing moment: one built around frontier science, hard technology and the people turning it into companies. Excited to announce Amine Raji, Co-founder and CEO of Spore.Bio, for The Biological Interface pillar! Why do factories still check for contaminationย with a tool from the 1880s? Before a product ships, samples are grown in a petri dish to see if anything appears, and that takes days. Spore Bio's machine shines light on a sample and uses AI to find and identify the germs in 10 minutes, with nothing to grow. Its research team is now pointing the same technology at superbugs, the bacteria antibiotics can no longer kill. Google's philanthropic arm picked Spore Bio as one of 12 recipients of its $20M AI for Science fund in January, and the company has contracts covering 200 factories. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Harvey Hodd (@harveyhodd), Founder and CEO of @Rivanindustries, for the Powering Britain pillar! What if natural gas didn't have to come out of the ground? Rivan uses solar power to turn carbon dioxide and water into fuel, starting with natural gas. It designs and builds the whole plant itself in Bermondsey, which is how it gets the cost down far enough to aim at beating drilled fuel on price. It has just built the biggest plant of its kind in the UK, and plans to scale up 1,000 times within two years. ๐Ÿ“The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Katie King (@KKingSpace), Co-founder and CEO of BioOrbit, for The Final Frontier pillar! BioOrbit is building the world's first pharmaceutical factory in orbit. Without gravity, biologic drugs crystallise properly, and those crystals carry far more of the drug in the same volume, survive without constant refrigeration, and release slowly enough that patients need treating less often. Cancer care is one of the fields it opens up. Its first factory, Box-E, spent six weeks on the International Space Station this summer, and millions of crystals it grew there are back on Earth for testing. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce James Spall, Co-founder and CTO of Lumai, for The Next Computer pillar! What if AI got more energy-efficient the bigger it got? Today's AI chips work the other way, with every jump in power costing even more electricity. Lumai does AI's heaviest maths with millions of beams of light instead. In its design, bigger systems run more efficiently, and the company says it can run AI at least 50 times faster on a tenth of the power. In April, its Iris server became the first optical computer to run a large AI language model in real time, and customers are now testing it. At DeepTech Week London, James goes up against the other founders racing to build the next computer. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Drake Caraker, VP Science at Apoha, for The Biological Interface pillar! Does AI know the sweet smell of roses? Or how a drug will respond in the body? Apoha's liquid state intelligence teaches machines to understand matter in a new way, giving them a sense of touch, taste and smell. A sample the size of a pinhead goes into an engineered liquid, and the ripples it sends back show how it behaves. Boehringer Ingelheim uses it to catch antibody drugs that will fail years before the problem shows up in the lab. Apoha launched in June with $36M. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Hannah Madan (@HannahMadan), Co-founder of @PrimaMente , for The Biological Interface pillar! Prima Mente are teaching AI how human biology works, starting with the brain. Diseases like Alzheimer's begin changing the brain decades before the first symptom. Prima Mente run their own lab and clinical studies to give their AI the data to spot those changes, and their first model already picks up early signs of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's in a blood sample. In March, their virtual brain cells, which let scientists test ideas for treating disease on a computer, won a $1M Alzheimer's research prize backed by Bill Gates. Their blood test model is now being piloted across 15 NHS sites.

Excited to announce Matthew Williams , Founder and CEO of @IONATE_Energy, for the Powering Britain pillar! What if the grid could carry a quarter more power without laying a single new cable? The grid still runs on transformers, the boxes that step electricity down for homes and factories, and their design has barely changed in 130 years. IONATE makes them smart, so they control how electricity flows in real time, and its AI software links them across the whole network. General Motors is putting IONATE's transformers into a factory in Michigan, and the World Economic Forum named IONATE a Technology Pioneer this year. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Anatolii Papulov, Founder and CEO of @NewOrbitSpace , for The Final Frontier pillar! What if small, cheap satellites could do the jobs of big, expensive ones? Flying at a third of the usual altitude makes that possible, since being closer to Earth means smaller instruments and less power can do the same job. Satellites can't usually fly that low, because the thin air there drags them back down to Earth within weeks. NewOrbit has built an engine efficient enough to keep a satellite there for five years, unlocking missions that were impossible for satellites until now. Flying that low also means no space junk, because a NewOrbit satellite burns up within a month of its mission ending. NewOrbit raised $18.5M in June to build its satellite factory, and its first satellite has a launch booked for 2028. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Joshua Western, Co-founder and CEO of @Space_Forge , for The Final Frontier pillar. Space Forge builds factories that orbit Earth. Every microchip in use today was made under gravity, which leaves tiny flaws in the material that make chips waste energy. Space Forge's satellites make that material without gravity, as near-flawless master copies that factories on the ground reproduce in bulk. Last December, Space Forge switched on the first commercial factory to make chip materials in orbit. Backed by ยฃ22.6M in a round led by the NATO Innovation Fund, it holds the only licence in the UK and Europe to manufacture in space. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

Excited to announce Jascha Achterberg (@achterbrain), Co-founder and CTO of @CallosumAI, for The Next Computer pillar! There is an explosion of new types of AI chip, each built for different jobs.ย  Callosum builds the software that makes them work together as one system, running each part of an AI job on whichever chip does it fastest or cheapest. With $100M raised and about twenty chipmakers on board, Callosum is building the infrastructure the UK government expects to shape how AI is computed globally. ๐Ÿ“ The Truman Brewery, London ๐Ÿ—“ 8 October 2026 ๐ŸŽŸ deeptech.london

For more than 350 years, The Truman Brewery has been part of Londonโ€™s story. It began as a small brewhouse in the 17th century and grew into one of the largest breweries in the world, producing 600,000 barrels a year, powered by a steam engine! Brewing stopped in 1989, and artists, musicians and market traders moved into the empty warehouses and built some of Brick Lane's best-known cultural spaces. Now another chapter is beginning. A major redevelopment of the estate has been approved, bringing restored historic buildings, new public spaces, a microbrewery and, in a very 21st-century twist... a data centre! From brewing beer to processing data, The Truman Brewery has spent centuries evolving with London. On October 8, it becomes the home of the Deep Tech London Summit.
