๐๏ธ DeepStation Greece in Athens is excited to share the post-event summary and photos from last week on a journey from idea to NeurIPS paper, and how the paper led to an independent AI research lab!
๐ฌ Building and Scaling an Independent AI Research Lab:
Panos Michelakis (Co-Founder and Lead Researcher, Synkrasis Labs) traced it back to an event in Athens, where he and his friend Giannis started talking through an idea they kept building on the side, beyond their day jobs.
That idea became a paper accepted at NeurIPS, which they presented at the poster session in San Diego, and the side project became Synkrasis Labs, now about fifteen people strong. He didn't skip the hard part either: "We asked professors at NTUA. Most said no. We rewrote the framing four times."
Key Takeaways:
๐น Research didn't need an institution: two friends grew into a team of about fifteen, doing it "for the fun and for the love of the game."
๐น In 2024, with tool calling brand new, they set out to measure the whole path an AI agent takes, not just its final answer.
๐น Getting the paper reviewed took longer than writing it, and help came from a stranger on LinkedIn.
Thank you to Panos for sharing the whole journey, rejections included. A huge thank you to Pi55 for hosting DeepStation in their amazing space once again, and to Natalia Vavoula for hosting the night.
Deep and special appreciation to the DeepStation Greece team who made it happen:

๐ฅ Everyone says AI research lives inside the academic path. Almost nobody shows you how it gets built outside it, and Panos has: an idea that began when he was still a student became a NeurIPS paper, and the paper became a lab.
๐ก What you'll learn:
๐น How an independent AI research lab gets built outside academia.
๐น What it took to turn a student idea into a NeurIPS paper.
๐น Why how an agent gets there matters as much as whether it succeeds.
๐ค Bio:
Panos Michelakis is a forward deployed engineer, AI researcher, and founder of Synkrasis Labs, an independent research group studying how AI agents behave in real world environments. At Wonderful, he leads a technical team building AI systems for banking and insurance. He was previously a Palantir Foundry Data Engineer at D ONE. ๐๏ธ DeepStation is excited to share the post-event summary and photos from AI Demo Night at the AI Center at Miami Dade College, three live demos in one evening from OpenRouter, DreamForge, and Hugging Face!
๐งญ Any model, any agent, a live tour of OpenRouter:
Carlos Arevalo (Product Designer, OpenRouter, formerly Apollo GraphQL and Flow) gave a live tour of OpenRouter: hundreds of models behind one API key, rankings that show what developers are actually building with, and media benchmarks that put every model on the same tricky prompt so quality, price, and speed sit side by side. Then guardrails that set the rules for spend, models, and providers, and Ori Harness launching Claude Code and Codex on any model with a single command.
๐ฎ DreamForge, a playable game that did not exist when the room walked in:
John Krajewski (Cofounder, CEO & CTO, DreamForge, formerly Electronic Arts) and Amar Shivdasani (Cofounder, COO & CFO, DreamForge, formerly Deloitte) introduced Forge, the AI that builds a game with you. One photo of the AI Center, Grant as the director, Sergey Brin as a visiting billionaire, a rogue AI called Aura, and the game that loaded was Ghost in the Deep, set in a 3D version of this room.
๐ค Hugging Face, from a Jupyter notebook to production without the hand waving:
Muntaser Syed (Lead GenAI Engineer, Insight Global, formerly NVIDIA) ran the whole pipeline live from a sixteen minute Colab notebook: DistilBERT fine tuned with LoRA, exported through ONNX, quantized to int8, two candidates at the release gate, one promoted and one blocked. On how models go rogue: "there's a human decision that either places or takes away the safeguards."
Key Takeaways:
๐น Model choice proved swappable, not a commitment.
๐น Making a game took a conversation and a photo of the room.
๐น A release is a gate, and a person choosing to leave it in.
Thank you to Carlos, John, Amar, and Muntaser for building live.
Thank you to the AI Center at Miami Dade College for hosting our community.
Special appreciation to Arewa Ojelade and Joel Sola, who kept every part of the night turning.
๐ Miami keeps showing up for this, and we keep building it for you.
๐ Join DeepStation for AI Demo Night! Third spotlight: "Any Model, Any Agent: A Live Tour of OpenRouter" featuring Carlos Arevalo, Product Designer at OpenRouter (formerly Apollo GraphQL & Flow).
๐ฅ Hundreds of AI models, one account, and the coding agent you already use. Almost nobody knows where their model spend actually goes. Carlos shows you, down to a single request, live.
๐ธ The Demo
A live tour of OpenRouter: finding the right model in a multimodal catalog from leading labs and providers, rankings that reveal what developers are actually building with, and media benchmarks that test models on the same tricky prompts so you can compare quality, price, and speed side by side. Then into chat to try those models live with a custom prompt.
You'll also see guardrails that set the rules for spending, models, and providers, solo or as a team, and how those rules follow you into Ori, a suite of tools for AI agents, where Ori Harness launches Claude Code, Codex, and more with a single command.
๐ก What you'll learn:
๐น How to pick a model by quality, price, and speed instead of habit
๐น How guardrails control spend, models, and providers for a solo builder or a team
๐น How to launch Claude Code, Codex, and other agents with one command through Ori Harness
๐ค Speaker Spotlight: Carlos Arevalo
Carlos is a Product Designer at OpenRouter, where developers access hundreds of AI models with one API key; his work spans the platform, from multimodal experiences to enterprise products and terminal-based agents. He started out studying architecture at Miami Dade College and has spent more than ten years in design since: as a Staff Product Designer at Apollo GraphQL he shaped tools for companies using GraphQL at scale, and as a Lead Product Designer at Flow he built AI systems and operator tools for managing buildings around the world. Originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, and a longtime Miami local, he loves the beach, exploring new places, video games, and Lord of the Rings lore.

๐ฅ The Hugging Face Hub made foundation models easy to reach. Almost nobody shows you the road from a Jupyter notebook to a production deployment. Muntaser walks it, live.
๐ธ The Demo
A deep look at the Hugging Face ecosystem: end-to-end ML workflows that scale from constrained edge devices to multi-GPU clusters, using the full stack (accelerate, peft, and optimum) for parameter-efficient fine-tuning, strict evaluation metrics, and faster inference. Whether you run massive cloud pipelines or ship quantized models to the edge, you leave with a framework for treating AI as robust, scalable engineering rather than an API call.
๐ก What you'll learn:
๐น Parameter-efficient fine-tuning with accelerate, peft, and optimum
๐น Evaluation metrics strict enough to trust before you ship
๐น Inference that scales from edge devices to multi-GPU clusters
๐ค Speaker Spotlight: Muntaser Syed
Muntaser is Lead GenAI Engineer at Insight Global and a former Technical Lead in AI at NVIDIA. A computer engineering PhD researcher, he builds AI, robotics, and large-scale ML systems, with deployment experience across banking, DevOps, and multi-agent systems. ๐น How generated assets across media types become one coherent playable game
๐น What separates a shippable AI experience from an impressive demo
๐น Where AI gaming is heading next, from the people building it
๐ค Speaker Spotlight: John Krajewski
John is a veteran game developer and founder with a lifelong passion for world-building. He began his career at Electronic Arts and Midway Games on titles like Batman: Dark Knight and Lord of the Rings, then founded Strange Loop Games solo and created Eco, which passed $20 million in sales and 800,000 paid downloads while the studio grew to 30+ people without outside funding. At DreamForge he leads product and technology, with a deep belief in player-driven creativity.
๐ค Speaker Spotlight: Amar Shivdasani
Amar is an entrepreneurial operator across finance, strategy, and growth. He started at Deloitte Consulting advising Fortune 500 companies on digital transformation, then joined WayTrade as its second employee and Chief Strategy Officer, helping scale it from pre-revenue to more than $50 million in annual recurring revenue in under a year. ๐๏ธ DeepStation Greece is excited to share the post-event summary and photos from our Athens meetup, โAI Smart Agriculture and Business Growthโ ๐ฌ๐ท
๐ค Building Neuroagro with ML and Agentic AI
Pavlos Dimadis, Founder & CTO of Neuroagro4.0, presented a practical look at how AI can move from data to real-world agricultural decisions and actions.
His core message was clear: AI in agriculture matters only when farmers can trust it and use it in the field.
He explored:
โข The challenges facing modern agriculture, from rising input costs to climate instability and yield pressure
โข Neuroagroโs closed-loop approach: Measure โ Predict โ Recommend โ Act
โข How IoT sensors, agronomic models, ML, and automation work together
โข Why messy, seasonal, and fragmented farm data makes real-world deployment challenging
โข How agentic AI can help small teams scale sales, customer support, reporting, and operations
โข The role of agentic ERP systems in coordinating inventory, installations, payments, and customer workflows
โข How Chatagro can provide farmers with explanations, guidance, and support while escalating complex issues to human agronomists
๐ก Key takeaways:
๐น Applied AI requires more than powerful modelsโit needs reliable hardware, quality data, agronomic expertise, simple UX, and clear ROI.
๐น AI becomes truly valuable when it connects sensors, decisions, and actions in a complete operational loop.
๐น Agentic systems can multiply the capacity of small teams without replacing human expertise.
๐น Trust is essential: farmers need to understand not only what action is recommended, but also why.
A special thank you to ฯ55 for sponsoring the venue and supporting DeepStation Athens, and to all the volunteers who helped make the event possible. ๐
Thank you to everyone who joined us. Weโre looking forward to sharing more about our next event soon! ๐ฏ
๐ Join DeepStation Greece in Athens for "AI Smart Agriculture and Business Growth" featuring Pavlos Dimadis, Founder & CTO of Neuroagro4.0!
๐๏ธ Register here: luma.com/deepst-zvnh
๐ฅ Anyone can use AI in a demo. Building one that survives a real growing season, and a real business on top of it, is another job entirely. That's the job Pavlos does.
๐ธ The Real Challenge
Agriculture is one of the hardest places machine learning has ever been asked to work. The data is messy, the conditions never repeat, and a model that shines in a demo still has to earn its keep in a field.
๐ธ What You'll See
Both halves of one problem, walked end to end: how ML-Agro models actually get built, and how agentic business models turn them into a company instead of a paper.
๐ธ Why It Matters
Agentic systems are rewriting what a small team can build and operate, and the industries software was slowest to reach stand to gain the most. Agriculture is at the front of that line.
๐ก What you'll learn:
๐น How ML models earn their keep on real farms.
๐น Where agentic systems multiply what a small team can ship.
๐น What it takes to build a company around applied AI.

Content is becoming easier to create and harder to make memorable. ๐ฏ
At our recent Vibe Marketing event, @Mariana Lara shared what creativity looks like when AI becomes part of the process.
As the founder of BOUND and AiLand, Mariana uses AI to explore and execute ideas faster. But the technology doesnโt decide what is worth creating. Curiosity, taste, and creative direction still shape the work.
That distinction matters.
As more brands gain access to the same tools, access itself stops being an advantage. The real advantage becomes knowing what your brand believes, how it should feel, and which stories are worth telling. ๐ก
AI can accelerate execution. It cannot create a meaningful point of view on your behalf.
Thank you, Mariana, for reminding our community that the future of creativity still needs human direction. ๐ค๐

๐๏ธ OpenAI Build Week was a dream! We had a packed room full of builders, developers, professionals, students, and enthusiasts who all had one thing in common: wanting to build the future using ChatGPT Codex.
๐ค The DeepStation team walked through how to build an application using ChatGPT Codex and a modern tech stack, whether technical or not at The LAB Miami!ย
๐ As Andrej Karpathy said, the hottest new programming language is English. So If you can speak any native langauge, you can now code and build applications that solve real problems.ย
๐ก I believe everyone today is a junior developer, whether they know it or not. We shared the high level concepts underpinning modern applications, from HTML and CSS to NextJS, APIs, and GitHub.ย
Afterwards, we had over 150 people in the room following along to build their own linktree app or their own projects using:
- ChatGPT Codex
- NextJS
- TailwindCSS
- PostgreSQL
- GitHub
- Vercel
Best of all, it was amazing to see so much incredible energy together helping one another out and connecting further within the community.
๐ซถ๐ค Deep and special appreciation to our volunteers who went around the room to make sure folks were progressing with the application:
- Gabe Klein
- Katherine Burge

- Jared Rivera
For folks that missed it, stay tuned! Weโre planning an online recording to help get you up to speed as well ๐ซก
Most people ask AI to start writing before theyโve figured out what they actually want to say. ๐ค
@GrantKurz believes that approach leads to generic content.
Before opening ChatGPT, get clear on four things: your message, your audience, your brand voice, and your goal. ๐ฏ
Once you know those, prompting becomes much easier, and the content starts sounding like your business instead of every other AI-generated post online.
The tool can help you write, but the direction still has to come from you. ๐ก
