This afternoon I moderated "Beyond Rations: The Challenge of Dining in Deep Space" at IAC 2026 in Antalya, organised by the @DeepSpaceFood . The idea behind it was simple: food on a long mission isn't catering, it's infrastructure, and it touches everything else in the habitat. After the panel, the room split into tables and worked through a lunar mission scenario themselves. The cards they filled in will feed into DSFC's roadmap. Thank you to Robyn Gatens, Kyunghwan Kim, Annie Shelton, Jarin Chu and Tor Blomqvist for the conversation, to Angela Herblet and the DSFC team for putting it together, and to everyone who stayed and did the work at the tables on the last day of the congress. Food is more than fuel, especially in deep space. Microgravity, stress and isolation can change how astronauts experience food. Future food systems must support not only nutrition, but also psychological well-being, morale and crew cohesion. Learn why: deepspacefood.org/blog-1/bey…

Why can’t astronauts live on nutrient bars and shakes alone? Because food must be enjoyed to fulfill its purpose. Supporting both physical and psychological well-being is essential to mission success. Read more: deepspacefood.org/blog-1/bey…

Going to space requires supplies. Being in space requires closed-loop systems that can sustain human life with less reliance on Earth. 🏆 Challenge prizes can help unlock the tech needed to make that possible: challengeworks.org/news/why-… @Challenge_Works
