Great launch party for the Museum of the Moon last night @bbcathedral. I’m grateful to have had a photo shortlisted in the accompanying astrophotography competition. The exhibition is on throughout November - go see it if you’re in the area!
The Flaming Star Nebula in Auriga. The result of a runaway star lighting up a cloud of gas it’s currently passing through at speed 💫
My astrophotography has been featured in The Yorkshire Post today! You can read the story online shorturl.at/YSlB7 or to those in the region - go buy a copy 😉 🗞️ @yorkshirepost
It’s been a while since I had a crack at the Andromeda Galaxy. Here’s my latest version, captured over 2 nights from my balcony
Another peak in the aurora activity a few minutes ago! The colours were incredible, even with just the naked eyes 👀
The aurora just put on another stunning display (in northern England at least). Did you manage to see it?
Did anyone see Steve?! We didn’t - thick cloud and drizzle here 🙄 bbc.com/weather/articles/c4g…
My latest take on the Heart Nebula, framed to include its tail streaking away into deep space. The light set off 7,500 years ago and was gathered up by my little refractor scope and astro camera for around 9 hours to produce this image
The Ghost Nebula - 7 hours with a Celestron 8” Edge HD on a struggling AVX mount shot at f/10 with no filters
Another image of the recent partial solar eclipse. It was a rare event because it was also a harvest supermoon - harvest because it was the nearest full moon to the September equinox, and supermoon because because it is closer to Earth than usual due to the elliptical orbit.
The partial lunar eclipse at 3.44am BST, 18th Sep 2024. It’s a rare event as it was also a harvest supermoon!

Did anyone get to see the partial lunar eclipse? It was an early one in the UK - 3.44am at its peak.

Managed to get a quick shot through a gap in the clouds. This is last night’s 90% waxing gibbous moon
Doing some test shots for next week’s partial lunar eclipse but battling with cloud. Anyone planning on shooting next week?
Another attempt at a Milky Way shot (2 clear nights in a row - so rare!) with basic equipment; a Canon 550D, kit lens and tripod. This is 22x13sec exposures stacked. Still light pollution at the horizon even in Bortle 3 - the town of Alston I think
