Remember, at some point in the day EVERYONE is a pedestrian:
🚶➡️ Follow the rules of the road
🚶➡️ Use crosswalks when available
🚶➡️ Walk on sidewalks when available
🚘 Look out for pedestrians and minimize blind spots
🚘 Be careful in hard-to-see conditions
🚘 Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks

We have been made aware of an on-going scam involving e-mails to residents, permit applicants, contractors and local businesses where Town of Dedham staff are being impersonated.

6-9 p.m. is one of the deadliest windows for pedestrians — right as most of us are driving home, picking up dinner or walking the dog.
The majority of pedestrian deaths in 2024 happened in the dark. Slow down and stay alert!

ALT A safety poster titled "Dusk Danger Zone" features a nighttime driving scene. It emphasizes watching for vulnerable road users and wildlife, paying extra attention near crosswalks, intersections, residential streets, and rural roads. The poster warns that 76% of pedestrian fatalities in 2024 happened in the dark. Safety tips include slowing down, increasing following distance, and never driving drowsy.
The moment you step out of your vehicle, you become a pedestrian. 🚶➡️
For October's National Pedestrian Safety Month, we're reminding everyone that safety is a 2-way street:
👁️ Drivers: Scan crosswalks and stay focused — put the phone away.
👟 Pedestrians: Stay visible, use crosswalks and look both ways before stepping off the curb.
