You can trade any FRLG Pokemon, or trigger any event with a real, unmodded Nintendo Switch using your own computer at home. No server. No GTS. Just a $20 USB WiFi stick talking to the Switch directly. Here's how it works: FireRed & LeafGreen on Switch Online use local wireless to trade, the same thing two consoles use when they're in the same room. So the trick is simple: make a Linux PC or VM pretend to be the second Switch. It works both ways: - your PC hosts, the Switch joins - the Switch hosts, your PC joins Real trades, in the Trade Center, with the animation and everything. The Pokemon lands in your save. It also does Mystery Gift. Your PC sends a real Wonder Card to the console, and the delivery man in the Pokemon Center hands you the gift. Event Pokemon at home. What you need: - A Switch or Switch 2 with FRLG (NOT modded) - A TP-Link Archer T3U USB WiFi adapter, about €15-20 (link in comments) - Any Linux machine or VM (Works with a VM on a Mac) My setup is a MacBook M4. Ubuntu running in a VM (VMware Fusion), with the T3U passed through to the VM over USB. So you don't even need a separate PC. A laptop and a cheap dongle is enough. Everything is open source.
