"The whole thing about colonialism, ripping away [indigenous] culture and worldview, and a sense of who you are from you. We have to learn from that, and really reflect on our own profession and recalibrate." - Cindy Blackstock, RSW

As we remember Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we call on social workers to use our power to support radical organizing movements. When have you been the moderate who agrees with the goals but disapproves of the tone/tactics? Never forget -- Growth and change isn't comfortable.
These phrases, and others like them are common in U.S. workplaces, and they're not OK. This is an example of #whitesupremacy. If you've used these phrases on the left, this is an opportunity to turn a new page. Practice catching yourself and train your brain to re-route.
What does it mean as social workers to engage in the deep and critical work of decolonization, yet participate in #thanksgiving activities in our workplaces? --- often to bring food and resources to people experiencing extreme poverty and structural discrimination?
We wanna hear from you! There's no shortage of things to talk about, and trust us, we have a running list of episode topics, but we're also curious to hear from you. What social work issues would you like to see addressed in this podcast? Leave your ideas in the comments!
Happy indigenous people's day!
